Book Description
The author reports on a Dalitz plot analysis of B− → D+?−?− decays, based on a sample of about 383 million ?(4S) → B{bar B} decays collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B Factory at SLAC. They find the total branching fraction of the three-body decay: ?(B− → D+ ?−?−) = (1.08 ± 0.01 ± 0.05) x 10−3. the masses and widths of D*2° and D*0°, the 2+ and 0+ c{bar u} P-wave states decaying to D+?−, are measured: m{sub D*2°} = (2460.4 ± 1.2 ± 1.2 ± 1.9) MeV/c2, ?{sub D*2°} = (41.8 ± 2.5 ± 2.1 ± 2.0) MeV, m{sub D*0°} = (2297 ± 8 ± 5 ± 19) MeV/c2 and ?{sub D*0°} = (273 ± 12 ± 17 ± 45) MeV. The stated errors reflect the statistical and systematic uncertainties, and the uncertainty related to the assumed composition of signal events and the theoretical model.

Book Description
The authors report preliminary results from a study of the decay B° → {bar D}°??− using a data sample of 470.9 ± 2.8 million B{bar B} events collected with the BABAR detector at the?(4S) resonance. Using the Dalitz-plot analysis technique, they find contributions from the intermediate resonances D*2(2460)−, D*0(2400)−,?(770)° and f2(1270) as well as a?+?− S-wave term, a {bar D}°?− nonresonant S-wave term and a virtual D*(2010) amplitude. They measure the branching fractions of the contributing decays.

Book Description
We report the results of a CP violation analysis of the decay B{sup {+-}} → D{sub??−?°}K{sup {+-}}, where D{sub?+?−?°} indicates a neutral D meson detected in the final state?+?−?°, excluding K{sub S}°?°. The analysis makes use of 324 million e+e− → B{bar B} events recorded by the BABAR experiment at the PEP-II e+e− storage ring. By analyzing the?+?−?° Dalitz plot distribution and the B{sup {+-}} → D{sub?+?−?°} K{sup {+-}} branching fraction and decay rate asymmetry, we calculate parameters related to the phase? of the CKM unitarity triangle. We also measure the magnitudes and phases of the components of the D° → {pi}+{pi}−{pi}° decay amplitude.

Book Description
We report a Dalitz-plot analysis of the charmless hadronic decays of charged B mesons to the state K{sup {+-}} {pi}{sup {-+}}{pi}{sup {+-}}. Using a sample of 226.0 {+-} 2.5 million B{bar B}pairs collected by the BABAR detector, measure the magnitudes and phases of the intermediate resonant and nonresonant amplitudes both charge conjugate decays. We present measurements of the corresponding branching and their charge asymmetries that supersede those of previous BABAR analyses. We find the asymmetries to be consistent with zero.

Book Description
Despite more than thirty years having elapsed since the discovery of CP violation, our understanding about the source and the nature of this phenomenon is still very limited. In the standard model of particle physics, CP violation is due to the presence of an non-irreducible weak phase in the Cabibbo-Kabayashi-Maskawa(CKM) matrix. Up to now, all the experimental results are in good agreement with the standard model. However, it is important for us to over-constrain the CKM quark-mixing matrix and explore the possibility of new physics beyond the standard model. The B meson provides an ideal place to measure CP violation due to its heavy mass and potentially large CP-violating effects. In particular, the angle [gamma] of the Unitary Triangle relating the elements of the CKM matrix is extremely crucial in terms of CP violation and constraints on the new physics models. Various methods using B- → D0K- decays have been proposed to measure based on the interference between the Vcb and Vub amplitudes. Despite the simple concept, the measurement turns out to be experimentally challenging due to the small branching fraction and the small value of [tau]B, the amplitude ratio between the two contributing Feynman diagrams. In this thesis a novel technique to measure [gamma] in B- → D(*) K- decay using a Dalitz plot analysis of D0 → K{sub s}[pi]+[pi]- is presented. Until the turn on of LHC b [1] later in the decade, this remains the most promising method to measure [gamma]. This thesis is roughly separated into two parts. The first part involves a study of hadron spectroscopy and the Dalitz plot analysis of the D0→ K$0\atop{S}$[pi]+[pi]-. The second part of the thesis involves the measurement of [gamma] in B- → D(*) K- using the results of the D0 → K$0\atop{S}$[pi]+[pi]- dalitz plot analysis.

Book Description
The authors report a Dalitz-plot analysis of the charmless hadronic decays of neutral B mesons to K{sup ±}?{sup {-+}}?°. With a sample of (231.8 ± 2.6) x 106?(4S) → B{bar B} decays collected by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B Factory at SLAC, they measure the magnitudes and phases of the intermediate resonant and nonresonant amplitudes for B° and {bar B}° decays and determine the corresponding CP-averaged branching fractions and charge asymmetries. The inclusive branching fraction and CP-violating charge asymmetry are measured to be?(B° → K?−?°) = (35.7{sub -1.5}{sup +2.6} ± 2.2) x 10−6, and?{sub CP} = -0.030{sub -0.051}{sup +0.045} ± 0.055 where the first errors are statistical and the second systematic. They observe the decay B° → K*°(892)?° with the branching fraction?(B° → K*°(892)?°) = (3.6{sub -0.8}{sup +0.7} ± 0.4) x 10−6. This measurement differs from zero by 5.6 standard deviations (including the systematic uncertainties). The selected sample also contains B° → {bar D}°?° decays where {bar D}° → K+?−, and they measure?(B° → {bar D}°?°) = (2.93 ± 0.17 {+-} 0.18) x 10−4.

The authors present a Dalitz-plot analysis of charmless B{sup {+-}} decays to the final state {pi}{sup {+-}}{pi}{sup {+-}}{pi}{sup {-+}} using 210 fb{sup -1} of data recorded by the BABAR experiment at {radical}s = 10.58 GeV. Book Description
We present for the first time a measurement of the weak phase 2[beta] + [gamma] obtained from a time-dependent Dalitz plot analysis of B° → D{sup {-+}}K°[pi]{sup ±} decays. Using a sample of approximately 347 x 106 B{bar B} pairs collected by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy storage rings, we obtain 2[beta] + [gamma] = (83 ± 53 ± 20)° and (263 ± 53 {+-} 20){sup o} assuming the ratio r of the b → u and b → c decay amplitudes to be 0.3. The magnitudes and phases for the resonances associated with the b → c transitions are also extracted from the fit.
