The primary focus is the resilience of Garifuna communities on the southeastern Caribbean coast of Nicaragua, through an in-depth study of Garifuna commitment to community and place, bolstered by interviews with recent Garifuna migrants to the U.S. who keep their culture alive in the Bronx and elsewhere through language, food, annual trips home, and spiritual connection with their ancestors.
