La demande de soins de santé mentale est particulièrement accrue chez les jeunes, qui semblent être très affectés par la pandémie, d’après les données de la littérature internationale. Paradoxalement, la fréquentation des urgences psychiatriques a diminué dans plusieurs pays, depuis le début de la crise sanitaire. A ce jour, aucune étude internationale publiée ne s’est intéressée spécifiquement à la population des 15-25 ans au sein des urgences psychiatriques, durant une période élargie de la crise sanitaire. L'objectif principal de notre étude est de mettre en évidence l'évolution du flux de consultations des patients âgés de 15 à 25 ans au cours de la première année de la crise sanitaire, comparativement aux trois années précédentes. Nous avons calculé et comparé la proportion de consultants dans la population cible entre la première année de la crise sanitaire et la période englobant les trois années précédentes. Nous avons également comparé plusieurs variables, entre 2179 jeunes consultant durant la première année de la crise sanitaire et 7592 jeunes venus consulter au durant les trois dernières années. Nous avons observé une augmentation significative de la proportion de patients âgés de 15 à 25 ans venant consulter durant la période COVID. Nous avons constaté une augmentation significative des sujets jeunes venant consulter pour anxiété, troubles du sommeil, et idées suicidaires pendant la période COVID. La santé mentale des jeunes est un enjeu majeur de santé publique et leur accès aux soins de santé mentale doit être favorisé.

With recent studies using genetic, epigenetic, and other molecular and neurochemical approaches, a new era has begun in understanding pathophysiology of suicide. Emerging evidence suggests that neurobiological factors are not only critical in providing potential risk factors but also provide a promising approach to develop more effective treatment and prevention strategies. “The Hidden Patients” looks at questions of gender in psychiatric publications on the colonial Maghreb, which described “normal” and “abnormal” forms of behaviour among the colonised and compared these findings to descriptions of Europeans who had been diagnosed with psychiatric “abnormalities”. Many psychiatric experts claimed that Muslim women rarely went “mad” and that they only accounted for a negligible percentage of the patients cared for by colonial psychiatrists.
