Book Description
This book is an abridged version of the two volumes "Convex Analysis and Minimization Algorithms I and II" (Grundlehren der mathematischen Wissenschaften Vol. 305 and 306). It presents an introduction to the basic concepts in convex analysis and a study of convex minimization problems (with an emphasis on numerical algorithms). The "backbone" of bot volumes was extracted, some material deleted which was deemed too advanced for an introduction, or too closely attached to numerical algorithms. Some exercises were included and finally the index has been considerably enriched, making it an excellent choice for the purpose of learning and teaching.

Book Description
This book aims at an innovative approach within the framework of convex analysis and optimization, based on an in-depth study of the behavior and properties of the supremum of families of convex functions. It presents an original and systematic treatment of convex analysis, covering standard results and improved calculus rules in subdifferential analysis. The tools supplied in the text allow a direct approach to the mathematical foundations of convex optimization, in particular to optimality and duality theory. Other applications in the book concern convexification processes in optimization, non-convex integration of the Fenchel subdifferential, variational characterizations of convexity, and the study of Chebychev sets. At the same time, the underlying geometrical meaning of all the involved concepts and operations is highlighted and duly emphasized. A notable feature of the book is its unifying methodology, as well as the novelty of providing an alternative or complementary view to the traditional one in which the discipline is presented to students and researchers. This textbook can be used for courses on optimization, convex and variational analysis, addressed to graduate and post-graduate students of mathematics, and also students of economics and engineering. It is also oriented to provide specific background for courses on optimal control, data science, operations research, economics (game theory), etc. The book represents a challenging and motivating development for those experts in functional analysis, convex geometry, and any kind of researchers who may be interested in applications of their work.

Book Description
From the reviews: "The account is quite detailed and is written in a manner that will appeal to analysts and numerical practitioners alike...they contain everything from rigorous proofs to tables of numerical calculations.... one of the strong features of these books...that they are designed not for the expert, but for those who whish to learn the subject matter starting from little or no background...there are numerous examples, and counter-examples, to back up the theory...To my knowledge, no other authors have given such a clear geometric account of convex analysis." "This innovative text is well written, copiously illustrated, and accessible to a wide audience"

Book Description
Convex Analysis may be considered as a refinement of standard calculus, with equalities and approximations replaced by inequalities. As such, it can easily be integrated into a graduate study curriculum. Minimization algorithms, more specifically those adapted to non-differentiable functions, provide an immediate application of convex analysis to various fields related to optimization and operations research. These two topics making up the title of the book, reflect the two origins of the authors, who belong respectively to the academic world and to that of applications. Part I can be used as an introductory textbook (as a basis for courses, or for self-study); Part II continues this at a higher technical level and is addressed more to specialists, collecting results that so far have not appeared in books.

Book Description
This book introduces the reader the theory of nonlinear inclusions and hemivariational inequalities with emphasis on the study of contact mechanics. The work covers both abstract results in the area of nonlinear inclusions, hemivariational inequalities as well as the study of specific contact problems, including their modelling and their variational analysis. Provided results are based on original research on the existence, uniqueness, regularity and behavior of the solution for various classes of nonlinear stationary and evolutionary inclusions. In carrying out the variational analysis of various contact models, one systematically uses results of hemivariational inequalities and, in this way, illustrates the applications of nonlinear analysis in contact mechanics. New mathematical methods are introduced and applied in the study of nonlinear problems, which describe the contact between a deformable body and a foundation. Contact problems arise in industry, engineering and geophysics. Their variational analysis presented in this book lies the background for their numerical analysis. This volume will interest mathematicians, applied mathematicians, engineers, and scientists as well as advanced graduate students.

Book Description
Topological Methods for Differential Equations and Inclusions covers the important topics involving topological methods in the theory of systems of differential equations. The equivalence between a control system and the corresponding differential inclusion is the central idea used to prove existence theorems in optimal control theory. Since the dynamics of economic, social, and biological systems are multi-valued, differential inclusions serve as natural models in macro systems with hysteresis.

Book Description
The role of asymmetric information in allocation of resources, together with the associated information-revelation process, has long been a central focus of economic research. While the bulk of the literature addresses these is sues within the framework of principal-agent relationship, which essentially reduces the problem to the sole principal's (the sole Stackelberg leader's) optimization problem subject to the agents' (the Stackelberg followers') re sponses, there are recent attempts to extend analysis to other economic setups characterized by different relationships among decision-makers. A notable strand of such attempts is the core analysis of incomplete in formation. Here, there is no Stackelberg-type relationship, and more impor tantly the players can talk to each other for coordinated choice of strategies. See, e.g., Wilson (1978) for a pioneering work; Yannelis (1991) for formula tion of feasibility of a strategy as its measurability; Ichiishi and Idzik (1996) for introduction of Bayesian incentive-compatibility to this strand; Ichiishi, Idzik and Zhao (1994) for information revelation (that is, endogenous deter mination of updated information structures); Ichiishi and Radner (1997) and Ichiishi and Sertel (1998) for studies of a specific model of Chandler's firm in multidivisional form for sharper results; and Vohra (1999) for a recent work. It is a common postulate in these works that every player takes part in design of a mechanism and also in execution of the signed contract.
