Book Description
LE PRESENT MEMOIRE PROPOSE UNE ETUDE DE L'ECOULEMENT LAMINAIRE EN CONVECTION NATURELLE ET MIXTE DANS UN CANAL VERTICAL BIDIMENSIONNEL FORME DE DEUX PLAQUES PLANES, VERTICALES, PARALLELES ET CHAUFFEES A FLUX CONSTANT. LES PARAMETRES DE L'ECOULEMENT SONT MIS EN EVIDENCE A PARTIR DE LA RESOLUTION, PAR UNE METHODE SEMI-ANALYTIQUE, DES EQUATIONS DE CONVECTION MIXTE, EN REGIME ETABLI. LES TRANSFERTS PARIETAUX AINSI QUE LES PROFILS DE VITESSE ET DE TEMPERATURE DANS LE THERMOSIPHON SONT CALCULES EN CONVECTION NATURELLE PAR UNE METHODE NUMERIQUE AUX DIFFERENCES FINIES. LA STRUCTURE DE L'ECOULEMENT ET LE ROLE MOTEUR DE LA PRESSION MOTRICE SONT DISCUTES EN FONCTION DES VALEURS DU NOMBRE DE GRASHOF ET DU FACTEUR DE DISSYMETRIE DE FLUX DE CHALEUR PARIETAL. LES RESULTATS NUMERIQUES SONT DE MEME VALIDES PAR COMPARAISON AVEC DES MESURES EXPERIMENTALES EFFECTUEES SUR DEUX DISPOSITIFS. LE NOMBRE DE REYNOLDS DE L'ECOULEMENT ET LES TRANSFERTS CONVECTIFS PARIETAUX SONT CALCULES DANS LA ZONE DE DEVELOPPEMENT DES COUCHES LIMITES, EN CONVECTION MIXTE, AVEC LE MEME TYPE DE METHODE NUMERIQUE. TROIS CAS SONT ENVISAGES: CONVECTION FORCEE FAVORISANT LA CONVECTION NATURELLE, CONVECTION FORCEE CONTRARIANT LA CONVECTION NATURELLE AVEC ECOULEMENT RESULTANT ASCENDANT OU DESCENDANT. LE PROBLEME DU BLOCAGE OU DU RENVERSEMENT DE L'ECOULEMENT EST DISCUTE DANS LE CAS OU LA CONVECTION FORCEE ET LA CONVECTION NATURELLE AGISSENT EN SENS CONTRAIRE L'UNE DE L'AUTRE. LES RESULTATS THEORIQUES DE L'ETUDE SONT APPLIQUES A LA MODELISATION D'UN SYSTEME PASSIF DE CLIMATISATION PAR EVAPORATION D'EAU DANS UNE CIRCULATION NATURELLE D'AIR. CE TYPE DE REFROIDISSEMENT TROUVE UNE APPLICATION INTERESSANTE DANS LES PAYS AU CLIMAT CHAUD ET RELATIVEMENT SEC

Book Description
Until very recently, energy supply of the world has been treated as being nearly inexhaustible. Nowadays about 90 percent of the energy used is obtained from non-renewable resources: oil, natural gas, coal and uranium. These resources are being used up at an alarming rate. To meet our demands we are now searching for new sources of energy. One of these new sources of energy is solar energy which will assume increasing importance. It is free but means must be developed to use it economically. Research is actively under way to reduce the storage cost of this low intensity energy and for the design of economical systems. The purpose of this Institute is to provide an international forum for the dissemination of information on solar energy utilization: fundamentals and applications in industry. This meeting is primarily a high level teaching activity. The subject is treated in considerable depth by lecturers eminent in their field. The other participants include scientists, engineers, and senior graduate students who themselves are involved in a similar research and who wish to learn more about current developments, as well as scientists from other areas who are planning to research on solar energy. The lectures are supplemented by informal discussions designed to encourage the free and critical exchange of ideas. A limited number of contributions are also included. This volume contains both basic and applied information contributed during the Institute. The editors appreciate the cooperation of Martinus Nijhoff Publishezsin making the proceedings widely available.

Book Description
Annular Two-Phase Flow presents the wide range of industrial applications of annular two-phase flow regimes. This book discusses the fluid dynamics and heat transfer aspects of the flow pattern. Organized into 12 chapters, this book begins with an overview of the classification of the various types of interface distribution observed in practice. This text then examines the various regimes of two-phase flow with emphasis on the regions of occurrence of the annular flow regime. Other chapters consider the single momentum and energy balances, which illustrate the differences and analogies between single- and two-phase flows. This book discusses as well the simple modes for annular flow with consideration to the calculation of the profile of shear stress in the liquid film. The final chapter deals with the techniques that are developed for the measurement of flow pattern, entrainment, and film thickness. This book is a valuable resource for chemical engineers.

Book Description
This classic monograph on unsteady transonic flow — the flow of air encountered at speeds at or near the speed of sound — is of continuing interest to students and professionals in aerodynamics, fluid dynamics, and other areas of applied mathematics. After a brief Introduction, Swedish physicist Mårten T. Landahl presents a chapter in which the two-dimensional solution is derived, succeeded by a discussion of its relation to the subsonic and supersonic solutions. Three chapters on low aspect ratio configurations follow, covering triangular wings and similar planforms with curved leading edges, rectangular wings, and cropped delta wings, and low aspect ratio wing-body combinations. The treatment concludes with a consideration of the experimental determination of air forces on oscillating wings at transonic speeds.
