Book Description
The implications of uncertainty in the temporal payoff patterns of investments, together with risk-aversion and consumption-smoothing needs of customers and depositors of intermediaries, are analyzed. These features, as well as the need to preserve repayment incentives for borrowers, are shown to make equity-like contracts desirable. The insurance feature of such contracts, coupled with imperfect external monitoring and pre-committment, may call for regulatory intervention in order to implement ex ante optimal allocations.

Book Description
An indispensable survey of new developments and results in experimental economics When The Handbook of Experimental Economics first came out in 1995, the notion of economists conducting lab experiments to generate data was relatively new. Since then, the field has exploded. This second volume of the Handbook covers some of the most exciting new growth areas in experimental economics, presents the latest results and experimental methods, and identifies promising new directions for future research. Featuring contributions by leading practitioners, the Handbook describes experiments in macroeconomics, charitable giving, neuroeconomics, other-regarding preferences, market design, political economy, subject population effects, gender effects, auctions, and learning and the economics of small decisions. Contributors focus on key developments and report on experiments, highlighting the dialogue between experimenters and theorists. While most of the experiments consist of laboratory studies, the book also includes several chapters that report extensively on field experiments related to the subject area studied. Book Description
The book contains Paul Davidson's major contributions to the economics and policy debates of our times. The relationship between uncertainty, economic theory, international financial markets and global unemployment is analysed throughout. Davidson suggests new solutions for the major problems of the twenty-first century, including volatile financial markets in Asia and beyond, challenging orthodox responses. The differences between the Old-, New-, and Post-Keynesians all vying for Keynes's mantle, are explored.

Book Description
This book provides a reassessment of Keynes’ theory of liquidity preference. It argues that the failure of the Keynesian revolution to be made in either theory or practice owes importantly to the fact that the role of liquidity preference theory as a pivotal element in Keynes’ General Theory has remained underexplored and indeed widely misunderstood even among Keynes’ followers and until today. The book elaborates on and extends Keynes’ conceptual framework, moving it from the closed economy to the global economy context, and applies liquidity preference theory to current events and prominent hypotheses in global finance. Jörg Bibow presents Keynes’ liquidity preference theory as a distinctive and highly relevant approach to monetary theory offering a conceptual framework of general applicability for explaining the role and functioning of the financial system. He argues that, in a dynamic context, liquidity preference theory may best be understood as a theory of financial intermediation. Through applications to current events and prominent hypotheses in global finance, this book underlines the richness, continued relevance, and superiority of Keynes’ theory of liquidity preference; with Hyman Minsky standing out for developing Keynes’ vision of financial capitalism.

Book Description
This book proposes that the coordination problems lies at the heart of Keynes' economics and argues that Keynes' message got lost in the post-war period. The text develops an extension of Keynes' ideas within a general equilibrium framework and within alternative frameworks such as Austrian economics. It is demonstrated that in the absence of a co-ordinating device like the Walrasian auctioneer or in the presence of uncertainty, co-ordination can no longer be superimposed. This ultimately implies that apart from some notable exceptions, the Keynesian revolution was in fact stifled at birth because the validity of the central concepts of microeconomics have never been challenged.

This study presents a view of the economy, and how to model it, in which the current "ideal" of isolated agents coordinated by clearing markets is replaced by an open system in which money, trust, conventions and institutions all play their part in the system's coordination.

Book Description
In the ideal world, major decisions would be made based on complete and reliable information available to the decision maker. We live in a world of uncertainties, and decisions must be made from information which may be incomplete and may contain uncertainty. The key mathematical question addressed in this volume is "how to make decision in the presence of quantifiable uncertainty." The volume contains articles on model problems of decision making process in the energy and power industry when the available information is noisy and/or incomplete. The major tools used in studying these problems are mathematical modeling and optimization techniques; especially stochastic optimization. These articles are meant to provide an insight into this rapidly developing field, which lies in the intersection of applied statistics, probability, operations research, and economic theory. It is hoped that the present volume will provide entry to newcomers into the field, and stimulation for further research.
