Early Ordovician Conodonts and Biostratigraphy of the Arbuckle Group in Oklahoma
Author: Russell Ivan Dresbach
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Conodonts
Languages : en
Pages : 450
Book Description
Approximately 23,000 conodont elements assigned to 97 species were recovered from four measured sections in the Arbuckle and Wichita Mountains of Oklahoma. The measured sections include the Cool Creek, McKenzie Hill, Butterly, and upper part of the Signal Mountain Formations. Analysis of the conodont collections resulted in numerous revisions to Early Ordovician conodont taxonomy. The conodont data were used to produce a stratigraphic range chart for all species in this part of the Arbuckle Group. The recovered conodonts span the Cordylodus proavus through Macerodus dianae Zones of the currently accepted Early Ordovician conodont zonation scheme. The stratigraphic ranges of the recovered species are used to correlate the four measured sections using the technique of graphic correlation. Graphic correlation of the measured sections indicates that the bases of the McKenzie Hill and Cool Creek Formations are slightly older in the Arbuckle Mountains than in the Wichita Mountains. The Composite Standard Section established by graphic correlation is used to correlate the Oklahoma measured sections with a selection of measured sections from various parts of the world.
