Bookish and the Beast
Author: Ashley Poston
Publisher: Quirk Books
ISBN: 1683691946
Category : Young Adult Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 294
Book Description
A tale as old as time is made new in Ashley Poston's fresh, geeky retelling of Beauty and the Beast—now with a bonus Starfield story! Rosie Thorne is feeling stuck—on her college application essays, in her small town, and on that mysterious General Sond cosplayer she met at ExcelsiCon. Most of all, she’s stuck in her grief over her mother’s death. Her only solace was her late mother’s library of rare Starfield novels, but even that disappeared when they sold it to pay off hospital bills. On the other hand, Vance Reigns has been Hollywood royalty for as long as he can remember—with all the privilege and scrutiny that entails. When a tabloid scandal catches up to him, he’s forced to hide out somewhere the paparazzi would never expect to find him: Small Town USA. At least there’s a library in the house. Too bad he doesn’t read. When Vance’s and Rosie’s paths collide, sparks do not fly. But as they begrudgingly get to know each other, their careful masks come off—and they may just find that there’s more risk in shutting each other out than in opening their hearts.

A Scandalous Freedom
Author: Steve Brown
Publisher: Simon and Schuster
ISBN: 1439188483
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 323
Book Description
A reader’s delight, A Scandalous Freedom sometimes shocks with challenges to prevailing wisdom, but it follows up with compelling validations of our need to celebrate real, unstinted freedom in Christ. Christians do not trust freedom. As author Steve Brown explains in this brave new book, they prefer the security of rules and self-imposed boundaries, which they tend to inflict on other Christians. Brown asserts that real freedom means the freedom to be wrong as well as right. Christianity often calls us to live beyond the boundaries, bolstered by the assurance that we cannot fall beyond God’s love. Freedom is dangerous, but the alternative is worse—boxing ourselves up where we cannot celebrate our unique gifts and express our joy in Christ. Each of the book’s eleven chapters explores a common pharisaic, freedom-stifling tendency, then opens the door to the fresh air of a remedial liberty.

Exposing Themselves
Author: Coralie E. Judah
Publisher: Strategic Book Publishing
ISBN: 1625168993
Category : Political Science
Languages : en
Pages : 367
Book Description
Born and raised in the Caribbean in the '50s and '60s, one has a certain perception of those in authority as being "good, decent law-abiding intellectuals." So I was in for a shock when I had occasion to represent myself as a plaintiff in the Superior Court of Justice in Ontario, Canada. I was in for an even greater shock when I filed a criminal report about the illegal activities indulged in by lawyers, judges, and also by a visit from the police, who not only bullied me, but threatened to have me take a test for mental health issues if I contacted them again. What was most unbelievable was what took place at landlord and tenant board hearings: the blatant lies told not only by a judge at the board, but a paralegal and her clients whom she orchestrated and/or facilitated in breaking the law to effect an illegal eviction. What was even more disturbing was that those judges who accommodated the obvious lies told, broke Section 139(2) of the Criminal Code of Canada, to accommodate the paralegal as she not only attempted to, but was successful in obstructing, perverting and/or defeating justice. The actions of the authorities make one wonder if they are morally, intellectually and spiritually bankrupt. Hence the title of my next book, Are We Being Prepared for Heaven, or for Hell? Coralie E. Judah was born on a small island in the British Virgin Islands, and was raised on another small island, Montserrat. She now resides in Ottawa, Canada. ISBN: 1683690974
Category : Young Adult Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 322
Book Description
The Prince and the Pauper gets an “unabashedly fun” gender-bent makeover in this LGBTQ young adult romance that captures the magic of fandom (POPSUGAR)! On the other hand, the actress who plays Amara wouldn’t mind being axed. Jessica Stone doesn’t even like being part of the Starfield franchise—and she’s desperate to leave the intense scrutiny of fandom behind. Though Imogen and Jess have nothing in common, they do look strangely similar to one another—and a case of mistaken identity at ExcelsiCon sets off a chain of events that will change both of their lives. When the script for the Starfield sequel leaks, with all signs pointing to Jess, she and Imogen must trade places to find the person responsible. The deal: Imogen will play Jess at her signings and panels, and Jess will help Imogen’s best friend run their booth. But as these “princesses” race to find the script leaker—in each other’s shoes—they’re up against more than they bargained for. From the darker side of fandom to unexpected crushes, Imogen and Jess must find a way to rescue themselves from their own expectations . . . and redefine what it means to live happily ever after.
