The Ninth International Conference on Permafrost (June 29- July 3, 2008) marks the 25th anniversaries of the 1983 conference and the formation of the International Permafrost Association, both events having taken place at the University of Alaska in Fairbanks, Alaska. Over a 40-year span (1963-2003), approximately 2500 individuals from 36 countries participated in the eight conferences. This compendium includes approximately 1950 papers from all nine conferences.
