Book Description
Committed Styles offers a new understanding of the politicized literature of the 1930s and its relationship to modernism. It reclaims a central body of literary and critical works for modernist studies, offering in-depth readings of texts by T.S. Eliot and I.A. Richards, as well as by key left-wing authors including William Empson, David Gascoyne, Charles Madge, Humphrey Jennings, and Edward Upward. Building on substantial new archival research, Benjamin Kohlmann explores the deep tensions between modernist experimentation and political vision that lie at the heart of these works. Taking as its focus the work of these writers, the book argues that the close interactions between literary production, critical reflection, and political activism in the decade shaped the influential view of modernism as fundamentally apolitical. Intervening in debates about the long life of modernism, it contends that we need to take seriously the anti-modernist impulse of 1930s left-wing literature even when attention is paid to the formal complexity of these 'committed' works. The tonal ambiguities which run through the politicised literature of the 1930s thus effect not a disengagement from but a more thorough immersion in the profoundly conflicted political commitments of the decade. At the same time, the study shows that debates about the politics of writing in the 1930s continue to inform current debates about the relationship between literature and political commitment.

Book Description
This monograph contains the results of an interdisciplinary study into the life histories of male delinquents. Conducted by the Institute of Criminology at the University of Tübingen, it compares the biographies of young adult inmates with a random sampling of young men from the general population and considers the results in the light of other studies of a similar nature, primarily from the Anglo-American literature. The significance of this study lies not only in the data presented, but also in the conclusions the author draws concerning subject matter and methods of criminology as an autonomous, integrated science. This leads to a practice- oriented applied criminology based on the evaluation of specific criminological criteria. For the practitioner, such an approach allows a differential assessment of the individual offender in the context of his social relationships with conclusions regarding prognosis and therapeutic effects.

Book Description
Personality and Life-Style of Young Male Managers: A Logical Learning Theory Analysis presets the teleological theory of behavior wherein individuals are presumed to be agents of their behavior rather than the mere mediators or conduits of influences funneling into their cognitive processes. This book provides the basic data of the longitudinal study that involve personal interviews and independent personality measures drawn from objective and projective tests. Organized into two parts encompassing 17 chapters, this book begins with an overview of the basic research design, instrumentation, and the broader implications of scientific description and theoretical observations in the context of empirical proof. This text then reviews the fundamental findings of the longitudinal investigation. Other chapters consider the religious–humanism life theme as one of the vivid indicants that a man would be well adjusted in personality. This book discusses as well the types of men who continued to involve themselves on the parental–familial life theme are intelligent, self-confident, and prone to be leaders. The final chapter deals with the service life theme, which seem to take all the types of personality patterns. This book is a valuable resource for psychologists and research workers.
