El “efecto invernadero” y el calentamiento global de la atmósfera son el resultado de la emisión de gases contaminantes por el uso indiscriminado de combustibles tradicionales, especialmente de origen fósil, como el petróleo. Preocupados por el tema y sus consecuencias, tres investigadores de la Universidad de Lima analizaron la factibilidad de producir en el Perú combustibles “limpios”, como el biodiesel y el bioetanol, a partir de materias oleaginosas o de azúcares, para uno y otro caso, en la fabricación de carburantes alternativos que reemplacen progresivamente a los tradicionales. Asimismo, estudiaron la tecnología de los procesos productivos y los aspectos de costos de inversión y operación, que se entregan en este volumen como un aporte a la protección y la conservación del medio ambiente.
