Book Description
Excerpt from The Collected Papers of John Westlake on Public International Law When, soon after the death of Professor Westlake, the first edition of his Chapters on the Principles of International Law was exhausted, the Syndics of the University Press resolved, instead of simply bringing out a second edition of this work, to publish a Collection of all the smaller contributions of Westlake to Public International Law and to embody therein a new edition of the Chapters on the Principles of International Law. With the consent of Mrs Westlake I undertook the task of editing the present Collection, which comprises all the English papers of Westlake on the subject, with the exception of book reviews. Westlake's French Papers on Public International Law, which for the most part have appeared in the Revue de Droit International et de Législation Comparée (see below, Appendix, pp. 678-686), had, for want of space, to be excluded from the present volume; they are, however, easily accessible, since the Revue de Droit International et de Legislation Comparée is in the hands of all those interested in International Law. Book Description
This edited volume presents a collection of stories that experiment with different ways of looking at international law. By using different literary lenses -namely, storytelling, the novel, the drama, the collage, the self-portrait, and the museum- the authors shed light on elements of international law that usually remain unseen or unheard and expose the limits of what international law can do. We inquire into who the storytellers of international law are, the stages on which they tell their stories, and who are absent in these tales. We present it as a collection: a set of different essays that more or less deal with the same subject matter. Alternatively, we would like to call it a potpourri of stories, since the diversity of topics and approaches is eclectic and unconventional. By placing multiple perspectives alongside each other we aim to compare and contrast, to allow for second thoughts, and to rediscover. In doing so, we engage with the ambiguities of international law’s characters and spaces, and with the worldviews they reflect and worlds they create.

Book Description
The world has changed radically since 1989, when the General Assembly declared the period from 1990 to 1999 as the United Nations Decade of International Law. During that time, the international community claimed some major achievements as reflected by the adoption of conventions and treaties. This publication presents a collection of essays from legal advisers of States and international organizations, all of whom are among those committed to promoting respect for international law. Their contribution provides a practical perspective on international law, viewed from the standpoint of those involved in its formation, application and administration.

Book Description
In the wake of the adoption by the International Law Commission of a complete set of articles on state responsibility in international law in 2001, this collection assembles a number of essays tracing key debates which have marked the evolution of this field over the last fifty years. These include explorations of the general theory of state responsibility (link between ’primary’ and ’secondary’ rules, the place of due diligence, the link between liability and wrongfulness), the consequences of an internationally wrongful act (nature of remedies, suitability of countermeasures, third states and the shift from bilateralism to community interests in the law of state responsibility), the debate over criminalizing state responsibility, and the continuing relevance of the law of injuries to aliens. The collection also contains a series of essays offering critical perspectives on state responsibility, including feminist and developing world perspectives. It is completed by an extensive and up-to-date bibliography.
