Vol. 2 lists the names of over 10,500 Confederate soldiers that died during the Civil War. Some veterans are included. Also over one hundred Union soldiers that were buried along with the Confederates. The deaths of these Union soldiers were not included in the United States Quartermaster's 27-volume Roll of Honor series. Only, who was an indentured servant before the war, served in the 43rd US Colored Infantry during the war, and then served in two different 'Buffalo Soldier' units after the war: the 9th and 10th US Cavalry regiments.
