Les ciments verres ionomères connaissent aujourd’hui un nouvel essor notamment avec la modification de leur composition basée sur l’adjonction de résine (CVIMAR), constituant ainsi une évolution importante de la chimie et des mécanismes de prise de ces matériaux. Persiste l’extrême sensibilité de ce ciment aux conditions environnementales et plus particulièrement en milieu hydrique. Ce travail, après une évaluation des propriétés des verres ionomères par rapport à celles du matériau d’obturation idéal, a consisté en une étude in vitro en 2 volets. Le 1er volet a pour objectif de comprendre les mécanismes de prise, le comportement et les réactions dans le temps de ce matériau, en rapport avec la conservation en milieux hydriques, en utilisant un test de dureté (test de caractérisation des matériaux). Les résultats mettent en évidence l’importance de l’eau dans l’établissement de la réaction acide-base, et l’effet néfaste de l’hydratation à long terme et de la déshydratation sur les échantillons. Le 2ème volet pose l’hypothèse que les CVI ont la capacité à s’autoréparer. La méthodologie a consisté à évaluer ce phénomène sur des ciments dégradés (fissuration spontanée ou indentation) par une observation au microscope optique. Les résultats mettent en évidence une régénération des CVI traditionnels (Fuji IX®) et des CVIMAR (Fuji II LC®) dégradés au bout de 2 jours de conservation dans l’eau du robinet et la solution modifiée de Fusayama, mais pas dans l’eau déminéralisée. Cette étude préliminaire confirme les potentialités cliniques des CVI: biomatériaux automordançants, bioactifs et autoréparateurs et ouvre sur de nouvelles perspectives de recherche.
