Book Description
Rosalind Parsons has vanished. Father Christopher Maloney has vanished. In this fast-paced sequel to RUSSIAN FINGERS, some mysteries will be solved. Other mysteries will arise. Gimbel Saunders of the New York State Police, now relegated to solving cold cases because of a long-ignored heart murmur, will take on the task of trying to solve the very cold mystery of a triple murder and arson that happened years earlier in Syracuse, New York. When a drug deal goes bad in Skaneateles, New York, Gimbel is called back onto active duty. He goes undercover in Wilmington, North Carolina as drug lord Chuckie Petrossi to try to discover who is bringing fentanyl and heroin into the U.S. Just as he is on the brink of solving the case, the FBI orders Gimbel to drop his investigation. Will Gimbel persist on his own and take on the Russians in their underground drug terminal? Will Gimbel survive his encounter with the hurricane that strikes the Carolina coast? In this riveting narrative, no one is really the person they appear to be. Everyone is hiding something. Any one of the characters in the story could ask “Do You Know Who I Am?”

Book Description
Naturalistic cognitive science, when realistically rendered, rightly maintains that to think is to deploy contentful mental representations. Accordingly, conscious perception, memory, and anticipation are forms of cognition that, despite their introspectively manifest differences, may coincide in content. Sometimes we remember what we saw; other times we predict what we will see. Why, then, does what it is like consciously to perceive, differ so dramatically from what it is like merely to recall or anticipate the same? Why, if thought is just representation, does the phenomenal character of seeing a sunset differ so stunningly from the tepid character of recollecting or predicting the sun's descent? J. Christopher Maloney argues that, unlike other cognitive modes, perception is in fact immediate, direct acquaintance with the object of thought. Although all mental representations carry content, the vehicles of perceptual representation are uniquely composed of the very objects represented. To perceive the setting sun is to use the sun and its properties to cast a peculiar cognitive vehicle of demonstrative representation. This vehicle's embedded referential term is identical with, and demonstrates, the sun itself. And the vehicle's self-attributive demonstrative predicate is itself forged from a property of that same remote star. So, in this sense, the perceiving mind is an extended mind. Perception is unbrokered cognition of what is real, exactly as it really is. Maloney's theory of perception will be of great interest in the philosophy of mind and cognitive science.

Book Description
This series will include monographs and collections of studies devoted to the investigation and exploration of knowledge, information and data processing systems of all kinds, no matter whether human, (other) animal, or machine. Its scope is intended to span the full range of interests from classical problems in the philosophy of mind and philosophical psychology through issues in cognitive psychology and sociobiology (concerning the mental capabilities of other species) to ideas related to artificial intelligence and to computer science. While primary emphasis will be placed upon theoretical, conceptual and epistemological aspects of these problems and domains, empirical, experimental and methodological studies will also appear from time to time. One of the most, if not the most, exciting developments within cognitive science has been the emergence of connectionism as an alternative to the computational conception of the mind that tends to dominate the discipline. In this volume, John Tienson and Terence Horgan have brought together a fine collection of stimulating studies on connectionism and its significance. As the Introduction explains, the most pressing questions concern whether or not connectionism can provide a new conception of the nature of mentality. By focusing on the similarities and differences between connectionism and other approaches to cognitive science, the chapters of this book supply valuable resources that advance our understanding of these difficult issues. Book Description
Gary Barlow’s Path to Fame came to an abrupt halt when his career slumped in the most spectacular way. Until his solo career crumbled, his pathway had been lined with gold. Quite simply, he was a musical prodigy as a teenager growing up in the small Cheshire town of Frodsham. The compère at the local British Legion Club asked the bingo enthusiasts to listen politely to a song the schoolboy musician had just composed and give it a massive applause. Gary blew on the mic, as he always did, and began: ‘Put Your Head Against My Life...’ It was the first public performance of A Million Love Songs and it did indeed bring the house down. When he first found fame, Gary was perceived as arrogant but that changed when his solo career flopped and he became depressed and overweight, while the triumphs of Robbie Williams were a constant reminder of his failure. But Take That returned, bigger than ever, and Gary got back on the path. And just like Robbie, the first book of the unique Path to Fame series, he had to hit rock bottom before he could Rule the (pop) World again. About the Series: The Path to Fame is a unique series of books by Sean Smith, in which he follows the ups and downs, the disasters and triumphs of our best-loved superstars on their journey to becoming famous.
