This study compared intelligibility ratings of 10 children with a diagnosed or suspected phonological disorder. The following intelligibility measures were evaluated: Percent Consonants Correct (PCC), Children's Speech Intelligibility Measure (CSIM), and Clinician's Estimate. Paired t-tests were used to analyze the data collected. Results indicated no significant difference existed in scores between PCC and Clinician's Estimate, and a significant difference between the CSIM and PCC, and CSIM and Clinician's Estimate. A Pearson Correlation was used to determine if the scores of one measure could be used to determine scores of another. Of those scores, Clinician's Estimate exhibited a correlation with both CSIM and PCC.

School-based speech language pathologists often assess speech intelligibility in children with phonological disorders. However, it is unknown which methods they utilize to assess intelligibility. The purpose of this study was to survey school-based speech language pathologists to determine which methods they utilize to assess intelligibility in children with phonological disorders, why they measure speech intelligibility, and what factors influence the methods utilized. Results revealed participants most commonly utilized the Hodson Assessment of Phonological Patterns (3rd Edition) to assess speech intelligibility. The most common reasons participants measured speech intelligibility included to qualify a child for treatment, document progress during treatment, help determine intervention goals, and classify a level of unintelligibility. Finally, although it could not be determined which factos influenced the methods utilized, it could be determined that the factor most strongly related to the number of assessments utilized was the number of assessments with which the participants were familiar.
