Yantee Minnie is a potato peeler by trade (until she tries the role of a burnt cornflake flicker alongside Mickey's dad at Kellogg's ...last five minutes...) and arranges the family Coronation Party in grannie's front room...by invitation only. Kenny's wayward sister keeps running off with various men ...though upgrades her activities to include football and rugby teams ...thus bringing new meaning to 'on the game'. His mum, meantime, takes in a few lodgers to help the expenses of caring for 8 kids and a non-working husband. All sorts of adventures unfold. These include...* The hunt for the missing budgie.* The front-room party to celebrate the new Queen ... and no Kenny.* A Catholic Priest comes after Mickey's lapsed dad.* A new telly to watch the Coronation on...well, that was the intention before Mickey's dad appeared.... and much more fun...as Mickey plans to become a Pop Singer ...with Kenny as his 'Manager' and 'Fan Club President'....membership count - nil.Its a laugh as events like the 'Fake Hypnotist' on the pier in Torquay are revealed ...as well as Mickey's Yantee Mollie and her never-can-light fire and cats all called Mitzi.Mickey gets his head cut open by a brick thrown by a non-friendly neighbour...and his dad chases a burglar out of their house while holding just a night-light.It's real...it's true...it's fun...it's different...and it's a good read guaranteed to make the reader smile for a very long time.

Book Description
An ingeniously constructed drawing book that allows children to create a range of funny faces Funny Face! is an activity book in which things aren’t quite what they seem. Inspired by the idea of visual puns, the book allows children to draw, shade, and fold to make surprising and funny things happen to pictures of all kinds of faces. Using clever but simple methods, the book helps children create a range of witty visual gags. Doodle through a die cut and shaggy eyebrows on one picture turn into a droopy moustache on the picture beneath. Open a gatefold to make a little boy’s tiny ears become gigantic. Draw pictures on split pages to create faces with different hats, noses, and beards. Turn the pages back and forth to find all the tricks and make all the funny faces. Children will be delighted and surprised when, by creating one funny face, they unexpectedly make another funny face on a different page. Enhanced by Hannah Warren’s entertaining range of cheeky, naughty, smiling, and jolly faces, presented through rich colors and a sturdy format, Funny Face! offers hours of entertainment for energetic and creative children.

Book Description
“Marked by [McDermid’s] trademark stunners, including a climax that packs a vicious punch. And readers are again left to marvel at her ingenuity.” —Jay Strafford, Richmond Times-Dispatch From one of the finest crime writers we have, The Vanishing Point kicks off with a nightmare scenario—the abduction of a child in an international airport. Stephanie Harker is in the screening booth at airport security, separated from Jimmy Higgins, the five-year-old boy she’s in the process of adopting, when a man in a TSA uniform leads the boy away. The more Stephanie sounds the alarm, the more the security agents suspect her, and the further away the kidnapper gets. It soon becomes apparent that nothing in this situation is clear-cut. For starters, Jimmy’s birth mother was a celebrity—living in a world where conspiracy and obfuscation are excused for the sake of column inches. And then there are the bad boys in both women’s pasts. As FBI agent Vivian McKuras and Scotland Yard Detective Nick Nicolaides investigate on both sides of the pond, Stephanie learns just how deep a parent’s fear can reach. And the horrifying reality is that she has good reason to be afraid—for reasons she never saw coming. “[McDermid’s] work is taut, psychologically complex and so gripping that it puts your life on hold.” —The Times (London)

Book Description
Historical and Cultural Transformations of Russian Childhood is a collection of multidisciplinary scholarly essays on childhood experience. The volume offers new critical approaches to Russian and Soviet childhood at the intersection of philosophy, literary criticism, film/visual studies, and history. Pedagogical ideas and practices, and the ideological and political underpinnings of the experience of growing up in pre-revolutionary Russia, the Soviet Union, and Putin’s contemporary Russia are central venues of analysis. Toward the goal of constructing the "multimedial childhood text," the contributors tackle issues of happiness and trauma associated with childhood and foreground its fluidity and instability in the Russian context. The volume further examines practices of reading childhood: as nostalgic text, documentary evidence, and historic mythology. Considering Russian childhood as historical documentation or fictional narrative, as an object of material culture, and as embodied in different media (periodicals, visual culture, and cinema), the volume intends to both problematize but also elucidate the relationship between childhood, history, and various modes of narrativity.
