Book Description
Why do people with experience still make errors? How can we explain the omission of a step in a process or the reversal of a sample during a medical analysis, for example? What if it's all about neuroscience? We cannot always rely on our brain. The automatisms we acquire, although indispensable, can sometimes play tricks on us and lead us to make errors, which constitutes a danger not only for ourselves, but also for others. With the help of the latest research in neuroscience and 25 years of experience in consulting, observation of work situations and training, Isabelle Simonetto explains the functioning of the human brain in a playful, accessible and innovative way. Thanks to exercises, concrete examples and memo cards, the reader will be able to understand the various pitfalls inherent to the properties of the brain. The author also presents practical advice and techniques that can be directly applied in all professional sectors. An indispensable book for all those who wish to improve their security and reliability in their professional and personal lives. A unique book that mobilizes neuroscience to improve the safety and management of companies! ABOUT THE AUTHOR Isabelle Simonetto is a doctor in neuroscience, a lecturer and a consultant specialized in behavioral neurobiology. Since 2006, she has been working with companies on the themes of human factor reliability, memory and emotional intelligence. She is also one of the most sought-after experts of the APM (Association pour le Progrès du Management), of which she has been a member since 2010.

Book Description
Not everyone is a friend of the manifold abbreviations that have by now beCome a part of the scientific language of medicine. In order to avoid misunderstanding these abbreviations, it is wise to refer to a reliable dic tionary, such as this one prepared by Heister. The abbreviation ED means, for instance, effective dose to the pharmacologist. However, it might also stand for emetic dose. Radiologists use the same abbreviation for erythema dose, and ED could also mean ethyl dichlorarsine. A com mon meaning of ECU is European currency unit, a meaning that might not be very often in scientific medical publications. ECU, however, also means environmental control unit or European Chiropractic Union. Hopefully, those making inventions and discoveries will make use of Heister's dictionary before creating new abbreviations when preparing manuscripts for scientific publications. It is a very worthwhile goal not to use the same abbreviation for several different terms, especially if it is already widely accepted to mean only one of them. It may be impossible, however, to achieve this goal in different scientific disciplines. Therefore, although it is wise for the abbreviations used in a publication to be defined, it is also very helpful for readers and writers to use a dictionary such as this one. The author deserves our warmest thanks since we know that compiling such a comprehensive dictionary is based upon incredibly hard effort.

Book Description
Since the 1950s, a number of specialized books dealing with human factors has been published, but very little in aviation. Human Factors in Aviation is the first comprehensive review of contemporary applications of human factors research to aviation. A "must" for aviation professionals, equipment and systems designers, pilots, and managers--with emphasis on definition and solution of specific problems. General areas of human cognition and perception, systems theory, and safety are approached through specific topics in aviation--behavioral analysis of pilot performance, cockpit automation, advancing display and control technology, and training methods.

Book Description

Book Description
One of the major challenges facing organization studies has been for a long time to develop an operational content to the notion of routines . This book offers important advances in this direction, both conceptually and through illuminating case studies. Giovanni Dosi, Sant Anna School of Advanced Studies, Pisa, Italy This book showcases advanced empirical research that applies the concept of organizational routines to understanding organizations and how they change and evolve. The contributions gathered in the book cover qualitative, quantitative, and archival methods for empirical research applying the concept of organizational routines. Specific issues highlighted include the use of event-sequence methods in the analysis of organizational routines, the impact of standard operating procedures on recurrent behaviour patterns, and the stability, resilience, and change of organizational routines. The book thus provides an overview of different empirical methods applied to study organizational routines, and of their prerequisites, analytical power, and contribution. This comprehensive book will be of great interest to scholars and postgraduate students in the fields of organization theory, strategy, and organization behaviour. Researchers in organization, management and economic science, organizational change and evolutionary theories will also find this book invaluable.
