Particularly prominent are the Reverend Thomas Chase (25 items, 1738-1773, including twelve sermons); Judge Samuel Chase (signer of the Declaration of Independence and Supreme Court justice, ca. 10 items, 1783-1806, and estate papers); Judge Jeremiah Townley Chase (ca. 15 items, 1783-1824, and estate papers); Thomas Chase (II) and his wife Matilda Chase (29 items, ca. 1803-1819); Ann Chase (51 items, 1783-1852); Elizabeth Chase (4 items, 1813-1822); and Richard M. Chase (4 items, 1889-1899, including legal papers). Other correspondents include Mary (Mrs. Richard) Caton (22 items, 1811-1836); Robert Goodloe Harper (2 items, 1822-1823); and a noteworthy letter of the Marquis Wellesley to Charles Carroll of Carrollton, 1825, on family affairs and the greatness of the Carrolls. Some materials concern Commodore Stephen Decatur, including two letters by his widow, 1820, and her memorial to Congress, 1849; others relate to members of the Pinkney, Ridout, and Ridgely families.
