Book Description
Varicose veins (VV) and accompanied venous insufficiency is a frequent disorder, affecting about 30% of the Western populations. Chronic venous insufficiency has a major impact on patients' healthrelated quality of life (QoL) similar with different chronic disorders including DM as well as CVDs. The aim of this study was to assess and compare the applicability, technique and results of catheter directed foam sclerotherapy in management of varicose vein with and without mechanical injury to the vein wall. The study was conducted on 104 patients with primary VV between November 2017 to October 2019. All patients were admitted to vascular surgery department in Mansoura University hospitals. They were divided into 2 groups: A "chemical ablation" included 79 patients and B "mechanochemical ablation" included 25 patients. In chemical ablation group: catheter directed foam sclerotherapy of G.S.V was done using Aethexyclerol 3% by ureteric catheter. In mechanochemical ablation group catheter directed foam sclerotherapy of the GSV using Aethexysclerol 3% through flebogrif catheter. Complete occlusion was reported at 3 months for all cases of group A and 19/25 (76%) of cases among group B, after 6 months follow up occlusion occurred in 43/79 (54.43%) of cases among group A and 22/25 (88%) of cases among group B and long segment recanalization in 36/79 (45.56%) of cases among group A and 3/25 (12%) of cases among group B. Complications developed in 22 cases in group A and 5 cases in group B. In group A: 20 cases developed painful thrombophlebitis and one case reported DVT and only one case reported respiratory distress. While in group B: 4 cases developed painful thrombophlebitis and one case reported hyperpigmentation along the course of the vein. Patients in group B were more satisfied than group A patients with significant difference and also group B patients has less pain sensation than group A patients with significant difference.

Book Description
Sclerotherapy is an injection procedure to treat blood vessel malformations including spider veins and varicose veins. The procedure involves injection of a sterile solution into the veins using a very fine needle. This solution irritates the vein lining causing it to undergo fibrosis and eventually disappear. This book provides an introduction to sclerotherapy for practising dermatologists. Beginning with an overview of venous anatomy, the next chapters examine the pathophysiology of varicose veins and clinical signs of venous insufficiency. The following sections explain the techniques of sclerotherapy and potential complications. The book concludes with discussion on sclerotherapy for cystic and benign vascular lesions, and surgical treatment of varicose veins. Clinical photographs and figures further enhance the comprehensive text. Key points Provides an overview of sclerotherapy techniques for dermatologists Detailed discussion on venous anatomy, pathophysiology and clinical signs Includes chapter on sclerotherapy for cystic and benign vascular lesions Highly illustrated with clinical photographs and diagrams

Book Description
This text evolved as a response to numerous requests to present a simplified approach to the diagnosis and management of most of the common aspects of both cosmetic and medical venous disorders. The authors, representing experienced plebologists from several different primary disciplines, have attempted to present simplistic paradigm-oriented approaches on how to thoughtfully evaluate and manage common vein issues with contemporary solutions. Several areas of phlebology were not addressed in this text. The management of vascular malformations are beyond the scope of this text and were not covered in detail. Although indications for the appropriate use of IVC filters are discussed, the details about the specific devices, their placement and removal are also beyond the scope of this text. Deep venous obstruction from prior thrombosis, venous compression by arteries such as the compression of the left common iliac vein by the right common iliac artery and pelvic venous insufficiency can now be managed with minimally invasive image guided treatments; the technical aspects of such treatments are complex and not discussed in detail in this handbook. This book will increase the therapeutic skill of the practicing phlebologist and thus increase the quality of care for patients faced with problems related to venous disorders.

The organization of the book follows the basic pathophysiology of venous disorders with chapters addressing special conditions of common interest such as pelvic congestion syndrome, thoracic outlet syndrome, and May-Thurner syndrome. There is emphasis on novel treatment modalities and emerging technologies through dedicated chapters to anticoagulant agents, emerging modalities to treat superficial venous reflux and venous stent technology. Finally, this book is a melting pot for physicians who have shown dedication and passion to the care of patients with venous disease regardless of specialty and location. The authors are an international panel of vascular experts who trained in vascular surgery, interventional radiology, interventional cardiology, hematology, pulmonology and critical care medicine.
