Book Description
Nitroalkenes have often been referred to as "synthetic chameleons" owing to their reactivity, synthetic utility and biological significance. In the last two decades, the reactivity of nitroalkenes as substrates in diverse catalytic asymmetric transformations has been of tremendous interest on account of the powerful abilities of the nitro group to coordinate and withdraw electrons, as well as its amenability to undergo a wide variety of synthetic transformations. Although numerous original articles and reviews have appeared in the literature, a monograph providing a comprehensive coverage of this topic was conspicuous by its absence. This book features: A systematic, up-to-date, in-depth and well-organized compilation, spread over 12 chapters, of various catalytic asymmetric reactions of nitroalkenes with diverse substrates reported to date A wide coverage of reactions such as Michael additions, Friedel–Crafts reactions, cycloadditions, asymmetric reductions, multicomponent and cascade reactions, as well as other miscellaneous reactions Various chiral organo, metal and even biocatalysts involved in the stereoselective synthesis of multifunctional adducts via catalytic asymmetric reactions of nitroalkenes Schemes and figures detailing all the reagents, reaction conditions and product profiles Mechanistic details, including transition state models, which will be useful for effective catalytic design This book will be an invaluable resource for those who are working in the area of asymmetric catalysis and synthetic methodologies.

Book Description
In the last decade a new era in asymmetric catalysis has been realised by the discovery of L-proline induced chiral enamines from carbonyls. Inspired by this, researchers have developed many other primary catalytic species in situ, more recently secondary catalytic species such as aminals have been identified for use in asymmetric synthesis. High-yielding asymmetric synthesis of bioactive and natural products through mild catalysis is an efficient approach in reaction engineering. In the early days, synthetic chemists mainly focused on the synthesis of complex molecules, with less attention on the reaction efficiency and eco-friendly conditions. Recent investigations have been directed towards the development of atom economy, eco-friendly and enantioselective synthesis for more targeted and efficient synthesis. Building on the momentum of this rapidly expanding research area, Dienamine catalysis for organic synthesis will provide a comprehensive introduction, from the preformed species, in situ generation and onto their applications in the synthesis of bioactive molecules and natural products.

Book Description
Unique overview of the recent synthetic methodologies of the atropisomeric molecules and their numerous practical applications Atropisomerism in Asymmetric Organic Synthesis: Challenges and Applications presents new methodologies, strategies, unique catalysts, and solutions to challenges in the area of oxidative heterocoupling. After a general introduction for the concept of atropisomerism, this book focuses on the recent advances in the atroposelective synthesis of axially chiral compounds and how these advances had a significant impact on several applications in asymmetric catalysis and the synthesis of natural products. The book covers the recent examples of metal-catalyzed (Cu, Fe, Ru, V, etc) and organocatalyzed atroposelective syntheses of axially chiral compounds using diverse approaches, including cross-coupling reactions, ring-opening reactions, formation of new aromatic rings, and desymmetrization via functional group transformation. The impact of these efficient strategies on various applications in asymmetric catalysis, total synthesis of natural products, synthesis of polycyclic heteroaromatics (PHAs), and the drug industry is also addressed. Edited by two highly qualified academics, Atropisomerism in Asymmetric Organic Synthesis explores sample topics including: Iron- and ruthenium-catalyzed atroposelective synthesis of axially chiral compounds and the catalytic applications of multinuclear zinc complexes with axially chirality Vanadium-catalyzed atroposelective coupling of arenols and application in the synthesis of polycyclic heteroaromatics PHAs Mechanisms of atroposelective Suzuki-Miyaura coupling towards axially chiral biaryls and organocatalytic enantioselective formation of atropisomers Synthesis of atropisomers via enantioselective ring-opening reactions and the impact of axially chiral ligands and catalysts derived from atropisomeric binaphthyl structures Binaphthyl-based chiral DMAP derivatives in enantioselective transformations and catalytic atroposelective oxidative coupling in natural product synthesis Enabling readers to comprehensively understand the development history, research status, and potential of atropisomeric synthesis, Atropisomerism in Asymmetric Organic Synthesis is an essential, up-to-date reference for researchers and scientists in the field.

Book Description
This thesis focuses on NHC-catalyzed annulation of nitroalkenes, enals and α,β-unsaturated carboxylic acids. (1) NHCs were found to be efficient catalysts for the [4+2] annulation of β-substituted nitroalkenes. The scope of Rauhut–Currier reaction was successfully extended to the most challenging β-substituted alkenes by this method; (2) Enals were successfully used for [4+2] annulations with azodicarboxylates catalyzed by NHC via γ-addition. Highly enantiopure tetrahydropyridazinones and γ-amino acid derivatives could be easily prepared by subsequent transformations of the resulting dihydropyridazinones. (4) The readily available α,β-unsaturated carboxylic acids were first successfully employed to generate the α,β-unsaturated acyl azolium intermediates by using NHC for the enantioselective [3+2] and [3+3] annulations.

Book Description
Structured in three parts this manual recollects efficient organocatalytic transformations around clear principles that meet actual standard in asymmetric synthesis. Chapters were written by acknowledged leaders of the organocatalysis field, and are presented in a concise way. Volume 1: Privileged Catalysts gives insight to readers to the continuously increasing variety of catalysts, and the relatively complex interactions that make organocatalytic reactions selective. An appendix recollects catalyst structures with the adequate cross-references. Volume 2: Activations covers the fundamental activation types (non-covalent and covalent activations) and helps understanding the importance of physical parameters, and in particular, the role of water, that influences reactivity and selectivity. Volume 3: Reactions and Applications highlights transformations by reaction types. The final part of this volume is dedicated to application in multistep synthesis and industrial applications. Considering the ever increasing interest in the organocatalysis field, the book aims addressing to a large audience: to academic, and, industrial researchers, students and teachers who are interested in synthetic organic chemistry at advanced level. This book provides non-specialists with an introduction to the topic as well as serving as a valuable source for newcomers and researchers searching for an up-to-date and comprehensive overview of this promising area of synthetic organic chemistry.

Book Description
After the overwhelming success of Asymmetric Synthesis - The Essentials, displaying a broad range of organic asymmetric syntheses, this is the second edition with latest subjects and authors. While the aim of the first edition was mainly to honor the achievements of the pioneers in asymmetric syntheses, the aim of this new edition was bringing the current developments, especially from younger colleagues, to the attention of students. The format of the book remained unchanged, i.e. short conceptual overviews by young leaders in their field including a short biography of the authors. The growing multidisciplinary research within chemistry is reflected in the selection of topics including metal catalysis, organocatalysis, physical organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, and its applications in total synthesis, materials research and industry. The prospective reader of this book is a graduate or undergraduate student of advanced organic chemistry as well as the industrial chemist who wants to get a brief update on the current developments in the field.
