On October 12th, 1793, the corner stone Of the first building, the Old East, was laid with Masonic honors by Governor Wm. Richardson Davie, Grand Master. The doors were opened for students in February, 1795. The build; ings are now seven in number, affording accommodations for 500 students, With ample recitation rooms and public halls.
