Book Description
The borough of Swarthmore, a little over a square mile in area and located in Delaware County, was incorporated in 1893. The impetus for its transition from a rural hamlet into a thriving, broad-based community came from the founding in 1864 of Swarthmore College, a coeducational college founded by members of the Society of Friends (Quakers). Access to quality roads and public transportation encouraged its growth in the late 19th century and 20th century. The 21st century finds Swarthmore the home of one of the best liberal arts colleges in America, ideally situated in suburban Philadelphia while retaining its historic residential character and strong identity.

Book Description
A New York Times Notable Book A Miami Herald Best Book of the Year In this deeply personal book, the celebrated Haitian-American writer Edwidge Danticat reflects on art and exile. Inspired by Albert Camus and adapted from her own lectures for Princeton University’s Toni Morrison Lecture Series, here Danticat tells stories of artists who create despite (or because of) the horrors that drove them from their homelands. Combining memoir and essay, these moving and eloquent pieces examine what it means to be an artist from a country in crisis. BONUS MATERIAL: This edition includes an excerpt from Edwidge Danticat's Claire of the Sea Light.

Book Description
This classroom-tested textbook is an introduction to probability theory, with the right balance between mathematical precision, probabilistic intuition, and concrete applications. Introduction to Probability covers the material precisely, while avoiding excessive technical details. After introducing the basic vocabulary of randomness, including events, probabilities, and random variables, the text offers the reader a first glimpse of the major theorems of the subject: the law of large numbers and the central limit theorem. The important probability distributions are introduced organically as they arise from applications. The discrete and continuous sides of probability are treated together to emphasize their similarities. Intended for students with a calculus background, the text teaches not only the nuts and bolts of probability theory and how to solve specific problems, but also why the methods of solution work.
