Book Description
BE CAREFUL WHO YOU CHOOSE AS YOUR ENEMY, HE'S GOING TO BECOME JUST LIKE YOU Patricio Carrera has been waging what amounts to a private world war to bring to justice the murderers of his family; He's raised an army and air force and used them. He's raised a fleet and he's about to use that. He's suborned one republic and is about to undermine another. He's tracked his enemies across half a world, breaking, in the process, any notion of international law that stood in his way. Now he's deployed his legions to Pashtia, penultimate hideout of the Salafi Ikhwan who have made him what he has become. But with each step further from his home, revenge seems no closer. And with each step he leaves behind him a little of his dwindling humanity. Revenge is a dish best served cold. Yet the trail itself grows cold, as cold as the snow-capped, windswept mountains of Pashtia. Only Carrera's hate still burns hot, and that's a fire that is slowly consuming him. At the publisher's request, this title is sold without DRM (Digital Rights Management).

Book Description
This book describes how the various alien reptiles and amphibians now living in the wild throughout the world were first introduced, how they subsequently became naturalized, their present distribution and status in those countries to which they were introduced, and their ecological and socio-economic impact on the native biota and local economies. Many species have had a more or less neutral impact, being neither beneficial nor harmful. However, several have had a positive ecological or socio-economic impact, while some such as the cane toad, have had an extremely destructive effect. The criteria for inclusion of a species are that it should have been imported from its natural range to a new country by human agency--either accidentally or deliberately--and that it should currently be established in the wild in self-maintaining and self-perpetuating populations unsupported by and independent of mankind.

Book Description
'Violence' is virtually synonymous in the popular imagination with the period of the Later Roman Empire-a time when waves of barbarian invaders combined with urban mobs and religious zealots to bring an end to centuries of peace and serenity. All of these images come together in the Visigothic sack of the city of Rome in A.D. 410, a date commonly used for the fall of the entire empire. But was this period in fact as violent as it has been portrayed? A new generation of scholars in the field of Late Antiquity has called into question the standard narrative, pointing to evidence of cultural continuity and peaceful interaction between "barbarians" and Romans, Christians and pagans. To assess the state of this question, the fifth biennial 'Shifting Frontiers' conference was devoted to the theme of 'Violence in Late Antiquity'. Conferees addressed aspects of this question from standpoints as diverse as archaeology and rhetoric, anthropology and economics. A selection of the papers then delivered have been prepared for the present volume, along with others commissioned for the purpose and a concluding essay by Martin Zimmerman, reflecting on the theme of the book. The four sections on Defining Violence, 'Legitimate' Violence, Violence and Rhetoric, and Religious Violence are each introduced by a theme essay from a leading scholar in the field. While offering no definitive answer to the question of violence in Late Antiquity, the papers in this volume aim to stimulate a fresh look at this age-old problem.

Book Description
New Approaches in Cell Biology focuses on the introduction of ""new trends"" in cell biology. Divided into 14 chapters, the book contains the works of authors who have diligently conducted studies on the emergence of ""new trends"" in cell biology. The book first provides information on the process involved in the nuclear transfer of embryonic cells, and then proceeds with discussions on cellular inheritance, genetic components of lampbrush chromosomes, and the morphology of developing systems at the ultramicroscopic level. The text also notes the origin of the nucleus following mitotic cell division, including the types of chromosomal vesicle, nuclear membrane, and nucleoplasm. The discussions also focus on biochemical approaches to cell morphology; the relationship of paper chromatography with genetics and taxonomy; and the mechanisms in active transport systems. The matching of drugs to tumors, cytochemistry of proteins and nucleic acids, and the use of flying spot microscopy in research are also noted. The book is a vital source of information for readers interested in the pursuit of ""new approaches"" in cell biology.
