Book Description
Abducted by rancher Baron Selkirk-okay, it was an accident, but now he won't let her go-former TV child star turned horse whisperer Addie Jelleff enjoys a respite from the media circus that ruined her quiet retreat in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, but she's due back to town to defend her actor pal at his trial. Baron's vast, isolated ranch is only one of his many attractions, but he's awfully domineering and she can't possibly give in to their growing attraction while she's virtually his prisoner, can she? Baron sees the situation differently. Forced to drop his geology career and take over the family ranch, he's frustrated by too many people saying no to him. Isn't he in charge? Why is Addie so mysterious about her past and her commitments to another man? Why won't she give in to Baron, when every time they touch, they catch fire? It's a battle of wills-with neither one backing down. Addie can tame the wildest stallion, but reining in her own growing attraction to the high-handed rancher and keeping him from breaking through her defenses requires all her strength-and some help from unexpected sources. Praise for Captive of the Cattle Baron from the judges of the Touch of Magic Contest: "Full of life and real people with distinct, believable voices and personalities." "Love your voice! This was so easy to read. I love it when the author disappears and the story comes to life. Few are able to carry that off well-you have that talent." "Enjoyed the read! You have a great story!" From the judges of The Write Stuff Contest: "Addie's likeable and she's acting in a believable manner, so good job there." "The dialogue is quite natural and compelling. Great job!" "I loved the premise of the story." "Your opening scene was great! I love how it started with your two characters meeting each other in not the best circumstances." "I love your characters; both have something they need to redeem in different ways." "From your voice, to your characters, and plot you have an amazing story here." "Great western feel and classic fish out of water story." From the judges of the Emily Contest: "I think you're a truly talented writer." "I like that you got right into the story, introducing the characters and giving the readers enough back story to pique their curiosity." "Great story. Congratulations!" "It was very clear that Baron and Addie would be an excellent match (beyond their initial physical attraction)." "Very good! Very intriguing and likeable characters. I would totally go horseback riding with Addie."

Book Description
This sweeping, richly evocative study examines the origins and legacies of a flourishing captive exchange economy within and among native American and Euramerican communities throughout the Southwest Borderlands from the Spanish colonial era to the end of the nineteenth century. Indigenous and colonial traditions of capture, servitude, and kinship met and meshed in the borderlands, forming a "slave system" in which victims symbolized social wealth, performed services for their masters, and produced material goods under the threat of violence. Slave and livestock raiding and trading among Apaches, Comanches, Kiowas, Navajos, Utes, and Spaniards provided labor resources, redistributed wealth, and fostered kin connections that integrated disparate and antagonistic groups even as these practices renewed cycles of violence and warfare. Always attentive to the corrosive effects of the "slave trade" on Indian and colonial societies, the book also explores slavery's centrality in intercultural trade, alliances, and "communities of interest" among groups often antagonistic to Spanish, Mexican, and American modernizing strategies. The extension of the moral and military campaigns of the American Civil War to the Southwest in a regional "war against slavery" brought differing forms of social stability but cost local communities much of their economic vitality and cultural flexibility.

A Fish Out of Water It's culture clash when suburban Maryland widow Lauren Nash attends a house party in the West Virginia mountains to please her daughter, Wendy, and get a break from the stress of a pending lawsuit plus an in-law’s weird demand for a family heirloom. Wendy’s almost-engagement to Brandon Rawlings won’t become official until his mother approves of Wendy and her family—and his mom quickly makes her disapproval clear. So does her brother, Gary Murphy, who challenges Lauren in a hostile manner over politically charged topics. Lauren can’t flee soon enough, but a sudden snowstorm traps them all on the mountain, upending her relationship with Gary and Wendy’s with Brandon. As Lauren and Gary grow closer, Wendy and Brandon grow apart. Once the snowy roads are cleared and everyone goes home to their normal lives and problems, will new relationships blossom or wither? Shocking family secrets, a missing heirloom, culture clash, and a hike in a life-threatening snowstorm combine to make one wintry December memorable. --- Readers of Cleaning Her House will meet old friends in this story, the second in the timeline of stand-alone novels set in the extended Washington, DC, metropolitan area. Life Is Too Short is the third in the timeline.

Book Description
“I have a girlfriend,” he said. “Several, in fact.” He didn’t pretend to misunderstand what I’d asked. “What I need is a friend. Will you be my friend, Abbie?” My heart sank. The friendzone speech. I withdrew my hand. I should have known better. Sean might have some genuine interest in friendship, or he might be the kind of guy who denies he could ever be hot for a curvy girl. I’d met both kinds. I’d seduced my share, too, but today I didn’t have the heart for the struggle. I didn’t want to start myself down the same old path of wanting more than a man wanted to give me. Plus-sized soprano Abbie Fisher has a great opera career and a lousy love life. Dieting down a hundred pounds hasn’t changed her luck with men. Sexy baritone Sean Grant friendzones her—dashing her hopes for a romance—as they intimately rehearse the opera Tosca in Baltimore. Lots of touching to raise her temperature, and yet she’s supposed to keep her hands off. But then Sean snatches kisses and flirts with her, anyway. Is he pursuing a romance with her after all? What does he want from her? Confused and angered by Sean’s sexy overtures, Abbie consults her trusted Tarot cards before taking a bold step that could resolve her romantic dilemma—or break her heart. This novel is a stand-alone story and also Book 2 in the Singers in Love series about love, opera, and (maybe) the supernatural. A sweet contemporary romance with a hint of steam, much talk of food and dieting, and an upbeat happy ending. Enter the world of opera through the eyes of a woman in love.
