A layered chart of the muscles of the dog's thoracic limb on the medial aspect would be an effective way to visually represent the various muscles and their anatomical positions including origin and insertion in different layers. The muscles attaching the thoracic limb to the body (synsarcosis) are shown. Other muscles of the shoulder and arm are represented. The muscles in the forearm are also shown in layers with their origin and insertion. The muscles are numbered and a list on the right side of the chart indicates the name of each muscle. A layered chart of the muscles of the dog's pelvic limb on the medial aspect would be an effective way to visually represent the various muscles and their topographical anatomical positions including origin and insertion in different layers. Starting at the top of the chart, the muscles in the medial aspect of the thigh would be shown in three layers, the gracilis and sartorius as the first layer, followed by the middle adductor, and pectineus muscles, and the external obturator, quadratus femoris, and iliopsoas muscles in the third deepest layer. The femoral vein, the femoral artery, and the saphenous nerve could be seen. Other muscles are visualized as the semimembranosus, semitendinosus, and quadriceps femoris (Vastus medialis and rectus femoris). The medial head of the gastrocnemius muscle is reflected to show the superficial digital flexor muscle. The muscles in the crus are also shown with their origin and insertion.
