Koinonia and the Quest for an Ecumenical Ecclesiology
Author: Lorelei F. Fuchs
Publisher: Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing
ISBN: 080284023X
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 600
Book Description
The word koinonia has gained prominence in recent ecumenical discussions. In this original and substantial work Lorelei Fuchs proposes the theological idea of koinonia, commonly translated as "communion" or "fellowship," as the key to moving fractured churches toward a future unity. Fuchs challenges churches to move beyond mere dialogue and to apply ecumenical insights at the local level. She begins by relating the exegetical meaning of koinonia to its ecumenical meaning, tracing the place of koinonia both within the churches and between the churches. She then examines the concept of koinonia in the extensive and fruitful dialogues that have taken place between Lutherans, Anglicans, and Roman Catholics, finally articulating a "symbolic competence for communionality" that provides a rich and workable way forward for church unity at all levels. Encompassing the latest in ecumenical thought, Koinonia and the Quest for an Ecumenical Ecclesiology provides a broad, thoughtful framework for realizing Christ's prayer "that all may be one . . . so that the world may believe."

Jesus the Son of God
Author: D. A. Carson
Publisher: Crossway
ISBN: 1433537966
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 100
Book Description
Although it is a foundational confession for all Christians, much of the theological significance of Jesus's identity as "the Son of God" is often overlooked or misunderstood. Moreover, this Christological concept stands at the center of today's Bible translation debates and increased ministry efforts to Muslims. New Testament scholar D. A. Carson sheds light on this important issue with his usual exegetical clarity and theological insight, first by broadly surveying Jesus's biblical name as "the Son of God," and then by focusing on two key texts that speak of Christ's sonship. The book concludes with the implications of Jesus's divine sonship for how modern Christians think and speak about Christ, especially in relation to Bible translation and missionary engagement with Muslims across the globe.

A Voyage with God
Author: Phillip Blair
Publisher: Createspace Independent Publishing Platform
ISBN: 9781511675505
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 188
Book Description
With evil mounting around the world, God's plan for the Church begins. World-wide persecution of Christianity grows, but a clarion call sounds for the Army of God to rise up from the ashes and unite within the body of Christ as one spiritual force against the approaching storm. The Lord raises up young men and women with solemn faces and heavy hearts-battle-arrayed and ready for war. Their swords are sharp and their arrows pierce the darkness and bring forth light into all dark places. He pours His Spirit upon the old and the young, and they quickly come up. They bind together and look toward Heaven. As one, they kneel before the altar and unleash thunderous supplication before the throne room of God. They are of a multitude of all races, nationalities, and beliefs but Jesus Christ, their Lord, binds them together. Their differences do not matter. They are spirit-filled and move of one accord. The darkness shall not touch them. Their lights shine forth into the darkness, and the darkness cowers before the name of Jesus Christ on their lips. The darkness seeks to steal, kill, and destroy, but the Army of God prepares to die-there is power in death-and there is no other choice. The time is now. In nearly every book on end-time prophecy to date, the story begins with the rapture and tells of God's plan for the end-after Christians have been taken up into Heaven. What if the plan started before the rapture? God calls His believers to the front lines in preparation of the approaching spiritual storm. Christians are living in one of the most pivotal times in human history-at the climax of the story for God's plan for the Church! With revelations and personal prophecies backed by scripture, A Voyage with God calls God's followers to rise up in fulfillment of biblical prophecy as the race toward the end begins.

Experienced Wholeness
Author: Wanja Wiese
Publisher: MIT Press
ISBN: 0262343282
Category : Psychology
Languages : en
Pages : 369
Book Description
An interdisciplinary account of phenomenal unity, investigating how experiential wholes can be characterized and how such characterizations can be analyzed computationally. How can we account for phenomenal unity? That is, how can we characterize and explain our experience of objects and groups of objects, bodily experiences, successions of events, and the attentional structure of consciousness as wholes? In this book, Wanja Wiese develops an interdisciplinary account of phenomenal unity, investigating how experiential wholes can be characterized and how such characterization can be analyzed conceptually as well as computationally. Wiese first addresses how the unity of consciousness can be characterized phenomenologically, discussing what it is like to experience wholes and what is the experiential contribution of phenomenal unity. Considering the associated conceptual and empirical issues, he draws connections to phenomenological accounts and research on Gestalt theory. The results show how the attentional structure of experience, the experience of temporal flow, and different types of experiential wholes contribute to our sense of phenomenal unity. Moreover, characterizing phenomenal unity in terms of the existence of a single global phenomenal state is neither necessary nor sufficient to adequately address the problem of phenomenal unity. Wiese then suggests that the concepts and ideas of predictive processing can be used to analyze phenomenal unity computationally. The result is both a conceptual framework and an interdisciplinary account: the regularity account of phenomenal unity. According to this account, experienced wholes correspond to a hierarchy of connecting regularities. The brain tracks these regularities by hierarchical prediction error minimization, which approximates hierarchical Bayesian inference.
