Book Description
The C-1430BL ski-wheel aircraft is a medium range cargo, troop, or air evacuation transport manufactured by the Georgia Division of the Lockheed Aircraft Corporation for the U.S. Navy. The aircraft is designed to operate on skis from snow and ice surfaces as well as from concrete runways. The ski-wheel combination consists of two main skis and one nose ski attached to the normal landing gear. The performance of the ski-equipped C-130BL is lower than that of the C-130B. Take-off and landing distances (on concrete runways) have been increased 100 to 200 feet and 450 to 750 feet, respectively. The climb performance of the C-130Bl is less than that of the C-130B and is closed to that estimated by the contractor in the C-130BL Substantiating Data Report. The stability and control characteristics in general appear identical to those of the C-130B. There are no noticeable destabilizing effects resulting ffrom the ski installation.
