Book Description
Find beauty and hope by facing and dealing with the messiness of family life. The family is an imperfect institution. Broken people become broken parents who make broken families. But actually, broken is normal and exactly where God wants us. In The Beauty of Broken, Elisa Morgan, one of today’s most respected female Christian leaders, for the first time shares her very personal story of brokenness—from her first family of origin to the second, represented by her husband and two grown children. Over the years, Elisa’s family struggled privately with issues many parents must face, including: alcoholism and drug addiction infertility and adoption teen pregnancy and abortion divorce, homosexuality, and death Each story layers onto the next to reveal the brokenness that comes into our lives without invitation. “We’ve bought into the myth of the perfect family,” says Elisa. “Formulaic promises about the family may have originated in well-meaning intentions, but such thinking isn’t realistic. It’s not helpful. It’s not even kind.” Instead she offers hope in the form of “broken family values” that allow parents to grow and thrive with God. Values such as commitment, humility, relinquishment, and respect carry us to new places of understanding. Owning our brokenness shapes us into God’s best idea for us and enables us to discover the beauty in ourselves and each member of our family.

Book Description
Since the 1970s policy-makers and advocates for mothers, fathers, and children have attempted to remedy some of the inherent problems of divorce through public policy. This legislation has taken the form of mandated mediation, legal presumptions for particular custodial arrangements, child support orders, divorce education programs for parents, and parenting plans. Despite this movement, however, there has never been a comprehensive assessment of such policies or their effectiveness. This book provides that evaluation.

Book Description
Broken Family shares the fun, good, and bad of growing up in a large family or even any size of family that does not stay working at togetherness every day. The author's message is from his heart-a personal experience with a wonderful family of lots of activities and full of life become Broken. It covers the fun, joys, adventures, and heartbreak of growing up. Our author grew up in a small town in Iowa. He wants to encourage his readers to stay tight with parents and family members, to not ever assume everything is fine and being taken care of and be fair to all, to never let a sibling of the family abuse a parent, and to discuss estate matters with parents and family as parents age. Our author wants to help from his experience, if possible, to let other families stay away from becoming Broken. Don is the second born of a family with nine boys and three girls. Family has always been important to him. He always tried to please and help his mother with housework and his father with farmwork to the best of his ability. Don did not have to be told a second time to do some things. He spent two years with the army in New Jersey at the Nike base. After discharge from the army, he went to work for American Airlines for thirty-seven years. Retirement gave him many days of freedom. He golfed for a year, bought ten acres south of Winterset, Iowa, built three ponds, a covered bridge over his overfl ow, a small barn, a six-bedroom house, and planted a one-acre garden. After about eight years of enjoying his adventure of that achievement, he discovered a slow pitch ball. He began playing ball again, which he enjoyed so much in his youth. Remember, his family was of nine boys and three girls: a baseball team and cheerleaders. He still plays for three different teams: seventy-five-year-old and eighty-year-old travel teams. Every June, he meets the challenges the Senior Olympics have to offer in football distance (he has taken first place in his age each year), softball accuracy, etc. He has over a hundred medals from his years of competition. In the summer of 2018, he was inducted in the Senior Games Hall of Fame. Don has been blessed in his life and enjoys sharing the good and bad of his life so far, which he knows has made him what he has become today.

Book Description
"Whether dealing with collective catastrophe or intimate trauma, recovering from emotional and physical hurt is hard. Kathleen O'Connor shows that although Jeremiah's emotionally wrought language can aggravate readers' memories of pain, it also documents the ways an ancient community, and the prophet personally, sought to restore their collapsed social world. Both prophet and book provide a traumatized community language to articulate disaster; move self-understanding from delusional security to identity as survivors; constitute individuals as responsible moral agents; portray God as equally afflicted by disaster; and invite a reconstruction of reality" -- Publisher description.
