Publisher: M.D. Publications Pvt. Ltd.
ISBN: 9788175330221
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 214
Book Description
The book presents valuable information on the performance of cross-breds and indigenous cattle with respect to reproduction, production, disease susceptibility and draught utility aspects under tropical field conditions. It discusses empirical evidences of various factors that are responsible for influencing the performance of dairy cattle under different farming systems locations. It also provides an insight into the services undertaken by the cattle developmental agencies, field level constraints experienced by them and farmers with respect to dairy farming. In view of the significance attached to the cross-breeding programme in the tropical countries like India, the book provides an insightful understanding about the multivarious factors associated with dairy farming under tropical conditions involving different farming systems located under varied agro-ecological conditions.

Milk Production and Reproductive Performances of Cross Breeds Cattle
Author: Wassie Teketay
Publisher: LAP Lambert Academic Publishing
ISBN: 9783659794308
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 76
Book Description
The main goal of this book is to share knowledge on milk production and reproductive performances of cross-bred cattle and the effect of both genetic and non genetic factors on these performances based on research results which are conducted in different areas on different cross- bred cattle. Production environments vary as a result of different management practices and constantly changing climatic conditions leading to variability in animal performance. An animal of high genetic value may perform dismally when the production environment is not right due to the negative interaction between the animal's genes and its environment. This book is made up of two parts; the first part contain daily milk yield, lactation milk yield and lactation length of different cross-breds with reasonable explanation and factors affecting this performances. The second part provides good information on reproductive performances of cross-bred cattle and the effect of both genetic and non genetic factors on this performance based on research results. Both parts have useful information for researches, dairy business man and for lectures.

Tropical Dairy Breed
Author: Simeon Olawumi
Publisher: LAP Lambert Academic Publishing
ISBN: 9783659244506
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 92
Book Description
Tropical breeds of cattle have such unique and outstanding characteristics as hardiness, heat-tolerance and adaptability to hot environment; their low productivity notwithstanding. White Fulani cattle, one of the indigenous dairy cattle in Nigeria is unique in the sense that the breed is resistant to Trypanosomiasis, a killer disease prevalent in the humid Tropics. It is a dual-purpose breed and is tolerant to hostile weather conditions. The present data revealed that the breed recorded low calf birth weight and poor milk production due principally to its low genetic potentials and an unfavourable rearing environmental conditions. Possible intervention programmes include mating with improved exotic dairy breeds, improvement of the environment and provision of high quality feeds and supplemental diets throughout the year. These findings should be especially relevant for future research by Geneticists and Animal Breeders for the development of dairy breeds suitable for this country. The breed therefore, occupies an important position for the evolution of a more productive and profitable dairy type in the Tropics.
