Book Description
What if you were offered your dream job but only temporarily? What if there were no clear path for afterwards? Would you take the leap? Breathing Liquid is based on the true events that led to Dr. Jay Greenspan being faced with this very situation. Throughout his career, Jay never worried about having a clear plan, and while many of his decisions became successes, he also suffered setbacks that would have left others afraid to step out of their comfort zones. Despite the devastating loss of pediatric patients, missed promotions, personal complications, and peer criticism, he remained positive, kind-hearted, and mission focused. These experiences helped prepare him for his dream job but none more so than the Standards of Behavior he learned from his mentor, Mark.Breathing Liquid follows Jay as he is shown how to define the innate traits that have brought him success and establish proven behaviors that allow him to keep saying yes when others say no.Based on true events and experiences.

Breathing of Pressure Oxygenated Fluids by Submerged Mammals: a Literature Review
Author: Philip L. Hendricks
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Fluids
Languages : en
Pages : 24
Book Description
The literature on fluid respiration is reviewed and reports are presented on the publications by twenty-three researchers, describing the various experiments performed, results obtained, problems encountered and possible future applications of this work. Certain investigators became interested in the mechanisms of death by drowning. Work progressed from this to purposely submerging animals in liquids to perfect a technique whereby the animals could survive a period of immersion. The object of this work was to test the feasibility of man's breathing liquid and thus overcoming many of the problems of diving compression and decompression. As work progressed, problems began to arise--poor CO2 diffusion, fluid and electrolyte imbalance, fatigue, et cetera, --which would appear to severely limit the usefulness to man of such a system. Ocean Outpost
Author: Erik Seedhouse
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 144196357X
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 200
Book Description
One of the greatest scientific and technological achievements of the 21st century will be to cast a light on the eternal darkness of the deep ocean and this book identifies the key determinants of life or death in its extreme environment. Dr. Erik Seedhouse examines how individuals survive free dives to 200m, how humans adapt to breathing exotic gas mixes at depths exceeding 700m, and how technological innovation will enable humans to enter unendurable realms. The book describes the problems unique to the hostile environment of the deep ocean, such as decompression sickness, discusses how the human body responds to increased pressure, and what happens when adaptive mechanisms fail. Ocean Outpost describes how the technology will evolve, how crews will be selected and trained and what a typical underwater mission will entail. The book also chronicles the frontiers of diving medicine that will eventually take humans into the midst of a world we could once only guess at.

Breathing
Author: Edgar Williams
Publisher: Reaktion Books
ISBN: 1789143632
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 281
Book Description
Our knowledge of breathing has shaped our social history and philosophical beliefs since prehistory. Breathing occupied a spiritual status for the ancients, while today it is central to the practice of many forms of meditation, like Yoga. Over time physicians, scientists, and engineers have pieced together the intricate biological mechanisms of breathing to devise ever more sophisticated devices to support and maintain breathing indefinitely, from iron lungs to the modern ventilator. Breathing supplementary oxygen has allowed us to conquer Everest, travel to the Moon, and dive to ever greater ocean depths. We all expect to breathe fresh and clean air, but with an increase in air pollution that expectation is no longer being met. Today, respiratory viruses like COVID-19 are causing disasters both human and economical on a global scale. This is the story of breathing—a tale relevant to everyone.
