Book Description
This ethnography, based on a five-year field study, presents a holistic view of a nearly invisible ethnic minority in the urban Midwest, Cambodian refugees. Hopkins begins with a brief look at Cambodian history and the reign which led these farmers to flee their homeland, and then presents an intimate portrait of ordinary family life and also of Buddhist ceremonial life. The book details their struggles to adjust in the face of the many barriers presented by American urban life, such as poverty, dangerous neighborhoods, and unemployment, and also by the conflict between their particular needs and American institutions such as schools, health care, law, and even the agencies intended to help them.

Book Description
1. This extremely multidisciplinary book engages descriptive and prescriptive methods of study to video games, drawing heavily on philosophical traditions. It will have appeal outside of Film & Media and Philosophy to other areas of scholarly research including Sociology, Anthropology and Political Science. 2.The author is a senior scholar with extensive publications that explore the intersection of philosophy and ethics with digital games and reality. He has a strong presence on Facebook and Twitter as well as a well-designed personal website. He has historically be very engaged with his own digital and social media marketing for books he authors and plans to do the same for this title. 3. The author works to debunk and reframe what readers think they know about video games and digital culture, showing that it is wrong (or at least misguided) and that the important questions are often far more interesting and potentially disturbing than anticipated.

Book Description
Now in a full-length book, the New York Times Pulitzer Prize–winning graphic story of a refugee family who fled the civil war in Syria to make a new life in America After escaping a Syrian prison, Ibrahim Aldabaan and his family fled the country to seek protection in America. Among the few refugees to receive visas, they finally landed in JFK airport on November 8, 2016, Election Day. The family had reached a safe harbor, but woke up to the world of Donald Trump and a Muslim ban that would sever them from the grandmother, brothers, sisters, and cousins stranded in exile in Jordan. Welcome to the New World tells the Aldabaans’ story. Resettled in Connecticut with little English, few friends, and even less money, the family of seven strive to create something like home. As a blur of language classes, job-training programs, and the fearsome first days of high school (with hijab) give way to normalcy, the Aldabaans are lulled into a sense of security. A white van cruising slowly past the house prompts some unease, which erupts into full terror when the family receives a death threat and is forced to flee and start all over yet again. The America in which the Aldabaans must make their way is by turns kind and ignorant, generous and cruel, uplifting and heartbreaking. Delivered with warmth and intimacy, Jake Halpern and Michael Sloan's Welcome to the New World is a wholly original view of the immigrant experience, revealing not only the trials and successes of one family but showing the spirit of a town and a country, for good and bad.

Book Description
It's 1962. Portuguese immigrant, Veronica arrives in the US with her new husband, via a prearranged marriage to her cousin, in search of the American Dream. That dream proves to be elusive. While raising her two sons, Veronica struggles to balance her domineering live-in mother-in-law, and her failing marriage. Since divorce is out of the question, she is faced with the difficult choice: leave her husband and run away with her sons, get rid of her mother-in-law through extreme measures, or simply follow the guidance from her mentor, Aunt Heydee, whose advice still rings in her ears, "grab the bull by the horns and stop complaining." Book II of Veronica's Adventures candidly covers Veronica's quest for self-discovery as she is Braving a New World. "...an amazing journey of excitement, fear, pain, strength and courage...a true testament that anyone can overcome adversity and alter the course of their life to achieve things they never thought possible." Jennifer Ott, Photographer, artist of Ooh Baby Compound me: Give me Credit, Wild Horses, and Edge of Civilization. "...a pleasant walk through the 70's and 80's. This book is an enjoyable reading experience." Karen Sorbel, Producer and Editor for Willamette Falls Television.
