Introduction to Bose - Einstein Correlations and Subatomic Interferometry
Author: Richard M. Weiner
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN:
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 272
Book Description
The first textbook on Bose-Einstein correlations and their applications, an interdisciplinary topic bridging particle physics and quantum physics, and currently the centre of considerable interest in high energy physics. Besides its fundamental importance for particle physics, this phenomenon constitutes the main tool for the determination of sizes and lifetimes of particle sources. The contents of this book are divided into the following chapters, each of which concludes with exercises designed to test the reader's understanding of the concepts and theories included therein: The Foundations; Hadron Interferometry; Currents; Sources; Applications to Ultrarelativistic Nucleus-Nucleus Collisions; Correlations and Multiplicity Distributions; Photos versus Hadrons. It provides the first systematic analysis and comparison of the different theoretical approaches to the subject and will be invaluable to theorists and experimentalists in particle and nuclear physics, quantum optics and astrophysics.

Measuring Two-particle Bose-Einstein Correlations with PHOBOS@RHIC.

Book Description
We present results of a simulation of the measurement of two-particle Bose-Einstein correlations in central Au-Au collisions with the PHOBOS detector at RHIC. This measurement is expected to yield information on the relevant time and distance scales in these collisions. As the space-time scale is directly connected with the equation of state governing the evolution of the particle source, this information will be essential in understanding the physics of nucleus-nucleus collisions at RHIC energies. We demonstrate that the PHOBOS detector has sufficient resolution and acceptance to distinguish a variety of physics scenarios.

First Measurement of Bose-Einstein Correlations in Proton-Proton Collisions at $\sqrt{s}

Pages : 24
Book Description
Bose-Einstein correlations have been measured using samples of proton-proton collisions at 0.9 and 2.36 TeV center-of-mass energies, recorded by the CMS experiment at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. The signal is observed in the form of an enhancement of pairs of same-sign charged particles with small relative four-momentum. The size of the correlated particle emission region is seen to increase significantly with the particle multiplicity of the event.
