Book Description
Laura Lomas's play Blister is a tense relationship drama which examines the limits of forgiveness and the after-effects of trauma. The play was commissioned and first performed by Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, in collaboration with Paines Plough, at the Bute Theatre, Cardiff, on 1 April 2014, and was subsequently performed at the Gate Theatre, London. It is published as part of the Nick Hern Books Multiplay Drama series featuring large-cast plays specifically written to be performed by and appeal to older teenagers and young adults. The play opens with Lisa joining her brother Liam in a park in a Midlands city. Liam is in a bad way: he got a U in a practice paper for his BTEC, has fallen out with some of his friends, and feels powerless at home, where his mum is in an abusive relationship with a new man. He feels abandoned by Lisa, who, Liam has discovered, is on the point of moving out with her boyfriend Ashley. Isolated, drunk, and burning with rage, Liam feels he has nowhere left to turn, except to an act of pointless violence. Then the action skips forward twelve months, and everyone is dealing with the consequences of Liam's moment of madness. The original production was directed by Stef O'Driscoll, and performed by members of the company.

Sea Wall
Author: Simon Stephens
Publisher: Bloomsbury Publishing
ISBN: 1350114669
Category : Performing Arts
Languages : en
Pages : 20
Book Description
There's a hole running through the centre of my stomach. You must have all felt a bit awkward because you can probably see it. Sea Wall is a delicate monologue, completely devastating and beautifully powerful. Alex's story, spoken directly to the audience, begins full of clear light and smiles, as he speaks about his wife, visiting her father in the South of France, having a daughter, photography, and the bottom of the sea. His tone is natural, happy and engaging, with flickers of questions about belief and religion glimpsed under the surface. But his contentment falls away into deep and heart-breaking grief, crumbling to pieces with a vividness that is incredibly moving.
