Book Description
The evolution of a marriage of true partners maturing and changing, grappling with personal and family issues, plays out before a backdrop of the social and political upheaval of the latter half of the 20th century, bringing surprises, challenges, and blessings. In Blind Acceptance, the author experiences a metamorphosis as she confronts the realities of war, racism, and the cultural changes for women of her time. With an innate sense of our inter-connectedness and an unwavering trust in humankind, the author and her steadfastly supportive and delightfully irreverent husband perpetuate a family legacy of caring for others without reservation. IN PRAISE OF BLIND ACCEPTANCE Sandy Pimentel's new book, Blind Acceptance, is so well written and packed with twists and turns that it reads more like a novel than a memoir. Throughout the text she weaves the through line of her life live abundantly, love fully, and be an active participant in life. I believe her story will capture your heart; it did mine. Mache Seibel, MD, Author of the best-selling book The Estrogen Window Sandra Pimentel's searingly honest memoir takes readers on a journey through a fascinating life dedicated to compassion, creativity, and--above all--family. John H. Kennedy, Boston University lecturer and former Boston Globe journalist Sandra Pimentel, a young woman from an Italian working-class family, actively participating in community organizations, becomes ever more aware and angry over racial and social inequalities in American society. Blind Acceptance is a tribute to the enduring human spirit. Ms. Pimentel's unconditional acceptance encompasses the multitudes fortunate enough to venture into her warm and welcoming orbit. Jewelle Taylor Gibbs, PhD, Author of Destiny's Child Blind Acceptance captures the story of Sandy Pimentel, caught between the generation of women expected to toe the line and the next generation who demanded that the feminine voice be heard. Driven by her reliable natural instinct, Sandy blew past all the norms once dictated by family, religion, and the status quo. Juliette E. Fay, Executive Director, Martha's Vineyard Community Services

Book Description
A New York Times Editors' Choice A Washington Independent Review of Books Favorite Book of 2021 A writer’s humorous and often-heartbreaking tale of losing his sight—and how he hid it from the world. At age sixteen, James Tate Hill was diagnosed with Leber’s hereditary optic neuropathy, a condition that left him legally blind. When high-school friends stopped calling and a disability counselor advised him to aim for C’s in his classes, he tried to escape the stigma by pretending he could still see. In this unfailingly candid yet humorous memoir, Hill discloses the tricks he employed to pass for sighted, from displaying shelves of paperbacks he read on tape to arriving early on first dates so women would have to find him. He risked his life every time he crossed a street, doing his best to listen for approaching cars. A good memory and pop culture obsessions like Tom Cruise, Prince, and all things 1980s allowed him to steer conversations toward common experiences. For fifteen years, Hill hid his blindness from friends, colleagues, and lovers, even convincing himself that if he stared long enough, his blurry peripheral vision would bring the world into focus. At thirty, faced with a stalled writing career, a crumbling marriage, and a growing fear of leaving his apartment, he began to wonder if there was a better way.

Book Description
From a leading voice in integrative psychotherapy, this unique work offers a fresh perspective on the causes of emotional suffering--and the therapist's role in healing. Paul L. Wachtel explores how early attachment experiences can limit our adaptive resources by leading us to recognize and express only certain thoughts, feelings, and ways of interacting, while casting aside or avoiding others. He describes powerful strategies for working with clients to make room for aspects of the self that were sidetracked in the course of development. Illustrated with rich clinical examples, the book weaves together cutting-edge theory and research from psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, acceptance-based, and other therapeutic traditions.

Book Description
Strictly speaking, there is no such thing as private business since business activities have widespread and sometimes far-reaching impacts on the community. The side-effects of entrepreneurial decision making - increasing unemployment, for instance, or pollution - increasingly expose corporations to the public gaze, with management in the limelight. Facing Public Interest opens up new vistas on business policy and corporate communications facing public interest. The relationship between private enterprise and public interest is subjected to an ethical examination, highlighting the role of the general public as a locus of morality for business and the guiding concept of a corporate dialogue between management and the concerned public. Instructive case studies are also presented. The volume not only proposes corporate dialogue: it puts into practice. Business leaders, representatives of citizens' groups, public affairs consultants, and academics discuss the topics thoroughly and thoughtfully in the best contributions to the seventh conference on the European Business Ethics Network, held at the University of St. Gallen in September 1994.

Book Description
MMARA NE KYI - Divine Law/Love and Divine Hate Afurakani/Afuraitkaitnit (African) Ancestral Religion is defined in essence as the ritual incorporation of Divine Law and the ritual restoration of Divine Balance. Through ritual we incorporate those things, objects, deeds and entities we need to harmonize with Divine Order and through ritual we reject those things, objects, deeds and entities we need to in order to restore balance to our lives. Afurakani/Afuraitkaitnit (African) Ancestral Religion animates our culture, our way of life, for Afurakani/Afuraitkaitnit (African) Ancestral Culture is the Divine acceptance (Love/Law) of Order and the Divine rejection (Hate) of disorder. The phrase mmara ne kyi is Akan for law and hate. These terms derive from the same terms in Kamit: maa hna kht. Divine Law and Divine Hate are the Expansive and Contractive Poles of Divine Order. In this work we properly define these concepts inclusive of the fact that there are Deities (Abosom, Orisha, Vodou, Ntorou/Ntorotu [Neteru/Netertu-Ntrw/Ntrwt]) who embody these concepts: Maa and Maat (Law) and Heru Behdety and Sekhmet (Hate). We demonstrate that Law and Love have always been the same concept in Afurakani/Afuraitkaitnit (African) culture and that Hate has been and always will be Divine. Just as there are Deities of Law/Love, there are Deities of Hate. Moreover, and most critically, without an understanding of the Divinity of Hate one has absolutely no understanding of authentic Afurakani/Afuraitkaitnit (African) cosmology, culture, religion, philosophy and its infrastructure: Divine Order.
