Book Description
The Gift of an Ordinary Day is an intimate memoir of a family in transition, with boys becoming teenagers, careers ending and new ones opening up, and an attempt to find a deeper sense of place—and a slower pace—in a small New England town. This is a story of mid-life longings and discoveries, of lessons learned in the search for home and a new sense of purpose, and the bittersweet intensity of life with teenagers—holding on, letting go. Poised on the threshold between family life as she's always known it and her older son's departure for college, Kenison is surprised to find that the times she treasures most are the ordinary, unremarkable moments of everyday life, the very moments that she once took for granted, or rushed right through without noticing at all. The relationships, hopes, and dreams that Kenison illuminates will touch women's hearts, and her words will inspire mothers everywhere as they try to make peace with the inevitable changes in store.

Book Description
A collection of provocative, inspiring, and thoughtful essays about the place of politics in the pulpit. This book is the first collection of essays to explore the question: is there room for politics from the pulpit? In response to an increasingly polarized society, preachers grapple with the call to witness a unifying Truth in a world where truth appears subjective. While many congregations respond positively to social and political themes in sermons, others do not. Episcopalians in the conservative minority may be uncomfortable with political-themed preaching, while liberal Episcopalians demand a political message from the pulpit. What is a preacher to do when the Episcopal Church is no more immune to the temptation of polarization than the secular world? Contributors to this volume serve in a variety of contexts and bring with them their own distinct styles and visions. Anyone with an interest in the practical implications addressing the current political climate from the pulpit will find these essays provocative, inspiring, and thoughtful. Contributors: Samuel G. Chandler, Sarah T. Condon, Alex Dyer, Crystal J. Hardin, Ruthanna Hooke, Mark Jefferson, Russell J. Levenson Jr., Ian Markham, Phoebe Roaf, Stephanie Spellers, Samuel Wells

Book Description
This book depicts my life traveling from childhood to adulthood. Because of my humbled spirit during my valley experiences, I received mountaintop blessings. My life is a living testimony that the goals that you set in life are achievable when you put God first in all that you do and maintain a positive attitude. The Bible teaches us that you become what you think of yourself. If you think negatively, you will not put forth the effort to become great. The Bible says, "So as a man thinks in his heart, so is he." God has used me as an instrument to help individuals in the church and in the community to recognize that with God in your life, you can be blessed abundantly. The late president John F. Kennedy said, "Think not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country." It is within the image and likeness of Christ not to think so much about one's self but to think about how you can help someone else. When you work to help others, God will bless you in the process. My inspiration for writing this book is to help individuals recognize that the goals they set in life are achievable with Christ in their lives. There are so many people without goals in life, and they are drifting with the tides of society. My advice to humanity is, "Seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all other things will be added unto you." Set your goals, stay on course, and make the sacrifices to accomplish your goals. I pray that this book will inspire those who read it and humble their spirits by allowing God to guide their footprints here on earth. It is important to realize that with God in your life, all things are possible.

Book Description
“This lieutenant gets up there and says, ‘American soldiers don’t huddle and put their hands in their pockets on a cold day. They stand at attention.’ . . . [there was a] buzz . . . in Spanish . . . ‘Hey, they called us Americans!’”—Armando Flores, Army Air Corps. Many Catholic families blessed their children before they left home. After the Blessing tells the stories of many young Mexican Americans who left home to fight for their country. During the Mexican Revolution (1910–1920), many families fled Mexico to prevent their underage sons from being forced to fight. Ironically, the offspring of these immigrants often ended up across the ocean in a much larger war. Despite the bias and mistreatment most Mexican Americans faced in the US, some 500,000 fought bravely for their country during World War II. Their stories range from hair-raising accounts of the Battle of the Bulge to gut-wrenching testimony about cannibalism in the Pacific. In After the Blessing Mexican Americans reveal their experiences in combat during WWII—stories that have rarely been told.
