Black walnut has been felled indiscriminately for timber for everything from fine furniture to rifle stocks. But few know that it is really an extraordinary perennial oil-crop (as are most nut trees to varying degrees). The author takes you on a journey into biomass nut production. With the focus on his style of management, he examines the components of volume output and the internal rate of return to investment in a nut-based enterprise. Forest regeneration is a cornerstone of managing forests sustainably. Prompt and efficient regeneration gives society the benefits of wood products, as well as the economic wealth that obtaining and processing wood creates. Agroforestry systems are believed to provide a number of ecosystem services; however, until recently evidence in the agroforestry literature supporting these perceived benefits has been lacking. This volume brings together a series of papers from around the globe to address recent findings on the ecosystem services and environmental benefits provided by agroforestry.
