And You Will Find Rest
Author: Fr Wayne Sattler
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 0
Book Description
For six years, before becoming a well-regarded retreat master, Fr. Wayne Sattler lived as a diocesan hermit in a one-room cabin on an abandoned farmstead in rural North Dakota, striving to avail himself of the mystery of what God can do in prayer, clinging to the wisdom of the sixteenth-century Carmelite saints John of the Cross and Teresa of Avila as his trusted guides. Fr. Sattler was asked many times to write a book sharing the fruits of his time in solitude to help others progress in the spiritual life, and after returning to the active diocesan priesthood in 2013, he completed this long-awaited work. Delving deeply into two of the greatest mystical masterpieces ever written, St. John's Dark Night of the Soul and St. Teresa's Interior Castle, Father leads you through the intricate pathways of contemplative prayer, providing clarity on this oft-misunderstood subject. As you journey with these Doctors of the Church and grow in self-knowledge, you will discover: How God communicates with us as a Lover and how you can open your heart to Him What it may mean if you are nodding off during your meditation (You will be surprised!) Four spirits that influence your thoughts and actions How St. John explains the dark night of the senses, and methods to cooperate with God's grace Ways to grow in stillness, navigate distractions, and rest completely in the Lord Three ways to practice self-denial, cultivate charity, and attain freedom and peace in prayer St. John of the Cross describes contemplation as "nothing else than a secret and peaceful and loving inflow of God, which, if not hampered, fires the soul in the spirit of love." This book sheds light upon the great mystery of the mystical life for everyone. Join Fr. Sattler as he guides you in developing the capacity for contemplative prayer in our great hope of being led more deeply into union with God.

Bear's Braid
Author: Joelle Bearstail
Publisher: Mascot Books
ISBN: 9781645434979
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 38
Book Description
Bear and his friend Ben feel like they are living two lives: one, where native traditions--like long hair--are a crucial part of their identities, and the other, where indigenous expressions are mocked and treated with ignorance. When the boys encounter bullying because of the braids they wear, these two worlds collide. Seeking guidance from his beloved grandma, Bear confides his doubts and questions himself and his heritage. Bear's grandma knows about the strength it takes to overcome hardships, and with her help, Bear and Ben develop a plan to strengthen their connection to their roots while also bridging the gap between their schoolmates and their families. Seamlessly blending discussions of modern indigeneity and universal experiences of bullying and resilience, Bear's Braid is an essential and of-the-moment book that belongs on every bookshelf, and fits in easily with the classics of social justice children's literature.

Bismarck, North Dakota
Author: Cathy A. Langemo
Publisher: Arcadia Publishing
ISBN: 9780738520001
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 132
Book Description
The late 19th and the 20th centuries brought tremendous changes to Bismarck, as it did to all of North Dakota. The 1880s through the 1910s saw much of the new state's population growth. In this time period, English, Irish, Scandinavian, German, and many other immigrant settlers joined the several Native American tribes that had been in the Bismarck area for centuries. Later arrivals of Germans from Russia resulted in even more diversity in the young city. Originally named Edwinton for Edwin F. Johnson of Vermont, who first suggested the building of a transcontinental railroad, Bismarck became the territorial, state, and county seats of government. With the governmental functions came related businesses and industries, as well as employment opportunities for Bismarck's citizens. Its location on the Missouri River and a main railway line meant that Bismarck was accessible from all directions, and many of today's landmarks and streets are named for those who arrived by water and rail.
