Book Description
This textbook will appeal to students and graduates making their first steps in the application of both microfossils and stratigraphy. It presents, in detail, the historical development of microfossil biostratigraphy, from its birth to the emergence of sequence stratigraphy, including its roots in classical biostratigraphy. The interplay between the academic and economical challenges, on one hand, and developments in microfossil biostratigraphy, on the other, is explored thoroughly. The book also presents an introduction to the scientific concepts used in microfossil biostratigraphy practice, and the uses in microbiostratigraphy of 25 groups of microfossils, such as algae, protistans, reproductive plant debris, invertebrates, chordates and vertebrates, and microproblematica groups. It also provides a numerical method to calculate the biostratigraphical resolution of these microfossil groups.

Book Description
Nearly 100 geologists combine to produce approximately 60 articles in this volume. The essays fall under the general headings of "Carboniferous--General," "Devonian-Mississippian Boundary," "Mississippian--General," "Mississippian-Pennsylvanian--Boundary," "Pennsylvanian--General," "Pennsylvanian -Permian Boundary," and "Permian--General." A sampling of the essays in this volume include "Miospore Zonation of the Carboniferous" by Bernard Owens; "Carboniferous Small Foraminifers and Stratigraphy" by B. L. Mamet; "Devonian-Lower Carboniferous Boundary in Japan" by M. Minato, M. Kato, S. Haga, and H. Takeda; "Mississippian Stratotype--An Overview" by Thomas L. Thompson; "Conodont Succession in the Mississippian of South Canada" by Sonny Baxter and Peter H. von Bitter; "The Mississippian Boundary in North America" by Patrick K. Sutherland and Walter L. Manger; and "Palynological Delineation of the Mississippian-Pennsylvanian Unconformity in West-Central Pennsylvania" by B. R. Wilson, A. Traverse, and I. G. Williams.

Book Description
In addition to providing information about ancient environments and macroevolution, microfossils can be used to correlate the absolute ages of rocks. Following the development of biostratigraphy from classical origins into petroleum exploration and deep-ocean drilling, this survey explores in depth the surprisingly wide application of biostratigraphic methods. The book will be essential reading for students and researchers working in basin analysis, sequence stratigraphy, palaeoceanography, palaeobiology and related fields.

Book Description
The Proterozoic and early Phanerozoic was a time punctuated by a series of significant events in Earth history. Glaciations of global scale wracked the planet, interfingered with dramatic changes in oceanic and atmospheric chemistry and marked changes in continental configuration. It was during these dynamic and 'weedy' times that metazoans first appeared, diversified, culminating in the appearance of hard tissue skeletons and deep 'farming' of the marine substrate, in late Proterozoic and first few millions of years of the Phanerozoic. This book is the culmination of two symposia of UNESCO International Geological Correlation Project 493, one in Prato (Italy) in 2004, the second in Kyoto (Japan) in 2006. Both dealt specifically with the precise timing of physical events and teasing out of the effects which these changing environments, climates, global chemistry and palaeogeography had on the development and diversification of animals, culminating in the spectacular Ediacaran/Vendian faunas of the late Precambrian.

Book Description
This volume brings together state-of-the-art reviews of the non-biostratigraphic and biostratigraphic data that are used to define and correlate Permian time intervals. It includes analyses of Permian radio-isotopic ages, magnetostratigraphy, isotope-based stratigraphy and timescale-relevant biostratigraphy. It is the first book devoted to this subject and represents the cutting edge of Permian time-scale research.
