Book Description
The highly anticipated reissue of the 1979 edition of the biography of Hazrat Inayat Khan. Dictated by Inayat Khan himself with archival material and anecdotes. This biography recounts the life of Hazrat Inayat Khan in his own words, from his early years in India mastering classical Indian music and studying under Sufi teachers of the Chishti, Naqshbandi, Qadiri, and Suhrawardi orders, to his travels to America, England, Russia and France in the 1920s. During his time in the West he created a school of spiritual training based on his vision of the unity of all religions and the awakening of humanity to the divine within. In his unique form of Sufism, there are no barriers of race, creed, or religion. He did not see Sufism as a religion, but rather a way of life that enhances and fulfills every religion. Additional material and anecdotes from the archives of the Nekbakht Foundation. Published by the Nekbakht Foundation.

Book Description
Description: In this autobiography, Pir-o-Murshid Inayat Khan (1882 Baroda - 1927 New Delhi) describes his fascinating life. The book is divided in two parts the first part, called 'Biography,' covers his life from childhood to manhood (1882-1910), showing his character and interests, family circle and development into one of the most brilliant young musicians of his country. On a deeper lever, this period can be seen as a preparation for the great task awaiting him: the spreading of the Sufi message, the mystical philosophy known in the East since the earliest times, to the Western world. In the second part, called 'Autobiography,' Pir-o-Murshid Inayat Khan tells about his experiences in the Western world (1910-1926), his encounters with many of the leading personalities of his time, and work in spreading the Sufi Message and the establishment of the Sufi Movement. The book also contains, as the Master wished, his views on music, on various religions and spiritual movements, on the relationship of East and West. There is also all the reference material he collected regarding his musical career, reviews of his concerns, lectures, interviews with the press and interesting correspondence. The illustrations and some of the photographs were selected by him. Included, at his wish, are biographical sketches of his principal disciples, who worked under him as 'pioneers of the Message' in esoteric or exoteric functions. A glossary and index conclude this lasting work of great importance for anyone who wishes to study the life and work of the bringer of the Sufi Message to the Western world: Pir-o-Murshid Inayat Khan.

Book Description
We Rubies Four traverses continents and historic eras through Claire Ray Harper's vivid memoirs of life in the Inayat Khan family. With ancestral roots in both the East and the West, this remarkable family endured through World War I, the Great Depression, the traumatic events of World War II, and the postwar years, all the while cultivating a unique heritage of music and poetry, mysticism and heroism. Born Khairunisa Inayat Khan, Claire was the youngest child of American Ora Ray Baker and Indian Hazrat Inayat Khan. Ora Ray spent her young adult years in the household of her half-brother Pierre Bernard, who introduced yoga to the United States; and there she studied the vina under the tutelage of her future husband. Hazrat Inayat Khan belonged to a family of respected classical musicians and Sufi mystics. Traveling from his native India to Europe and the United States, Inayat Khan introduced new audiences to Eastern music and established the first school of Sufism in the West. After the marriage of Ora Ray and Hazrat Inayat Khan, their family lived in Russia and England before finding a more permanent home in France. Claire's older sister, Noorunisa Inayat Khan was a harpist and a poet, a student of child psychology and a published author of children's stories. During World War II, Noorunisa joined Great Britain's secret service to work undercover in occupied Paris under the code name Madeleine. Captured and tortured by the Nazis, she was executed at Dachau. To honor her courage and sacrifice, Noorunisa was posthumously awarded Great Britain's George Cross, and France's Croix de Guerre with Gold Star. The oldest brother Vilayat was a cellist and a student of philosophy and psychology who served as an officer on a British minesweeper in the D-Day invasion of Normandy. Following postwar careers as a journalist and a diplomat, Pir Vilayat later traveled extensively, teaching meditation, writing and speaking on Sufism as the head of the Sufi Order International. Hidayat was Claires second brother; he continued the family musical and mystical traditions" as a violinist and a professor of music, a conductor and a composer, and as Representative-General of the International Sufi Movement. Claire trained as a pianist and a nurse, and during World War II she worked in British hospitals and in Dr. Heatley's pencillin laboratory. Following the war, Claire moved between the United States and Europe while working and raising her son David. David's own account carries the family history into the next generation. Book jacket.

Book Description
The Indian Sufi master Hazrat Inayat Khan (1882–1927) was the first teacher to bring Sufism—Islamic mysticism—to the Western world. His teaching was noted for its stirring beauty and power, as well as for its applicability to all people, regardless of religious or philosophical background. This book gathers together three of Inayat Khan's most beloved essays on the spiritual life from among the fourteen volumes of his collected works: "The Inner Life": Inayat Kahn's sublime portrait of the person whose life is a radiant reflection of the Divine "Sufi Mysticism": in which the author identifies and shatters the common misconceptions about mysticism to reveal its true meaning "The Path of Initiation and Discipleship": What it means to set out on the spiritual path and how to find and maintain the right relationship with a teacher
