Book Description
In Big Apple Diaries, a heartfelt diary-style graphic memoir by Alyssa Bermudez, a young New Yorker doodles her way through middle school— navigating crushes, friendship, fashion, and identity, as well as the world-changing consequences of September 11, 2001. It’s the year 2000 in New York City. For 12-year old Alyssa, a biracial Puerto Rican girl, this means all kinds of new challenges: splitting time between her dad's apartment in Manhattan and her mom's new place in Queens, navigating the ups and downs of middle school, harboring an epic crush on a new classmate, and figuring out how to be a "real" Puerto Rican. The only way to make sense of it all is to write and draw her thoughts and worries into her diary. But, when a terrible tragedy strikes, Alyssa must find hope and strength within herself. Fortunately, Alyssa's family and friends are safe, and through the shared love and support of her people and community, Alyssa discovers she can overcome anything... even middle school. This honest, moving graphic memoir is based on Alyssa Bermudez's own middle school diaries before and after September 11, 2001.

Book Description
New York is a city like no other. Through the centuries, she’s been embraced and reviled, worshipped and feared, praised and battered—all the while standing at the crossroads of American politics, business, society, and culture. Pulitzer Prize winner Teresa Carpenter, a lifelong diary enthusiast, scoured the archives of libraries, historical societies, and private estates to assemble here an almost holographic view of this iconic metropolis. Starting on January 1 and continuing day by day through the year, these journal entries are selected from four centuries of writing—revealing vivid and compelling snapshots of life in the Capital of the World. “Today I arrived by train in New York City . . . and instantly fell in love with it. Silently, inside myself, I yelled: I should have been born here!”—Edward Robb Ellis, May 22, 1947 Includes diary excerpts from Sherwood Anderson • Albert Camus • Noël Coward • Dorothy Day • John Dos Passos • Thomas Edison • Allen Ginsberg • Keith Haring • Henry Hudson • Anne Morrow Lindbergh • H. L. Mencken • John Cameron Mitchell • Julia Rosa Newberry • Eugene O’Neill • Edgar Allan Poe • Theodore Roosevelt • Elizabeth Cady Stanton • Alexis de Tocqueville • Mark Twain • Gertrude Vanderbilt • Andy Warhol • George Washington • Walt Whitman • and many others “The most convivial and unorthodox history of New York City one is likely to come across.”—The New York Times “A must-read for anyone who has fallen in love with the Big Apple.”—New York Journal of Books “An absolute masterpiece.”—The Atlantic

Book Description
Phillip Samuel Pfurst, owner and CEO, of Pfurst Enterprises WorldWide (PEWW), sat behind his over-sized mahogany desk in the library of his Binghamton mansion. His six-year-old granddaughter Philless was perched on his desk, facing him. Sweetie, he said. Theres something I want you to tell you. It might be difficult to understand right now, but in time youll come to realize that God created American businesses so all the poor people will have jobs. And God created the Pfurst family to run all those businesses. Thats why we sing God Bless America. Years later, Phillip Samuel Pfurst (the P in his last name is silent) was crippled in a plane crash while campaigning for the presidency of the United States. Convinced that her grandfathers accident was the work of terrorists, Philless turns to her twin brother, Phillip the younger, to fulfill the old mans dream of a TeraCorp headed by a Supreme Executive Officer (SEXO). Young Phillip puts aside his dream of becoming a rocknroll impresario and enters the world of politics. Problems arise when a number of diaries surface, questioning the Pfurst familys history and threatening young Phillips run for the presidency. The Pfurst Family Diaries is a wacky, irreverent look at Americas growing political-financial complex run amok, and of Philless Pfurst-Steens efforts to change it into a super-efficient TeraCorp headed by a SEXO, while at the same time directing her brothers presidential election campaign. The book gives new meaning to the old adage-a womans work is never done.

Book Description
This is the incredible story of friendship brought about by the game of Bridge. Two young women meet when their children begin Kindergarten. Their story continues as told in this book. One has a fascination for Bridge and teaches her new friend the game. We learn about the four women that play together and the absolute fun they have. There is tragedy entwined at their game table. It also includes the husbands and children as a fun group over the years. They are from very different backgrounds which we learn little of, yet it is enough. However, one of the women has a background she is unwilling to share at all. In the end, we learn why. On a trip to celebrate their "almost" 30 year friendship, Kate and Simone fly to NYC to shop, see theater and enjoy wonderful restaurants. Naturally, the Bridge cards go along for 2-handed Bridge like these two have enjoyed during their friendship. On most of the journey they are playing in the airplane. During the trip, the past thirty years is remembered by Kate, the main character in the book who is narrating the story. Kate is thinking about the present, and the past, alternating between the two time-frames, going back, and then returning to the present; back and forth. Some she keeps to herself and some she discusses with Simone. One of the husbands is a wealthy philanthropic father of twins, murdered for no reason. His father-in-law, the Chief-of Police can't solve the crime and it goes cold. It was a brutal murder for no reason. There had been a stranger lurking they knew nothing about. The book spans Kate's first marriage and takes you into her second. It takes you graphically into both bedrooms. This book does not fail to knock on any bedroom doors. In the end, much is learned about their friend that never wanted to share her past

Book Description
The amazingly insightful, funny and brilliant record of Michael Palin's prime years as a member of the famed comedic group, Monty Python. Michael Palin has kept a diary since newly married in the late 1960s. This volume of his diaries reveals how Python emerged and triumphed, how he, John Cleese, Graham Chapman, the two Terrys---Jones and Gilliam---and Eric Idle came together and changed the face of British comedy. But this is but only part of Palin's story. Here is his growing family, his home in a north London Victorian terrace, which grows as he buys the house next door and then a second at the bottom of the garden; here, too, is his solo effort---as an actor, in Three Men in a Boat, his writing endeavours (often in partnership with Terry Jones) that produces Ripping Yarns and even a pantomime. Meanwhile Monty Python refuses to go away: the hugely successful movies that follow the TV (his account of the making of both The Holy Grail and the Life of Brian movies are page-turners), the at times extraordinary goings-on of the many powerful personalities who coalesced to form the Python team, the fight to prevent an American TV network from bleeping out the best jokes on U.S. transmission, and much more---all this makes for funny and riveting reading. The birth and childhood of his three children, his father's growing disability, learning to cope as a young man with celebrity, his friendship with George Harrison, and all the trials of a peripatetic life are also essential ingredients of these diaries. A perceptive and funny chronicle, the diaries are a rich portrait of a fascinating period. "A wealth of fascinating stuff about Monty Python." ---The Independent (UK)
