Book Description
David L. Goicoechea presents his fourth volume in a series on agape. The book focuses on the complementarity of agape (Christian love) and bhakti (Hindu love). First, he shows how the Jesuit Spirituality at Loyola in Chicago and the Franciscan Spirituality at St. Francis in Joliet, Illinois, helped him to appreciate mystical love. Secondly, he shows how agape with all nine of its characteristics is central to the Gospel of Mark. Then, especially with the help of the work of Dr. Raj Singh, he shows how bhakti developed throughout the history of India. Finally, Goicoechea shows how Georges Bataille, especially with the help of St. John of the Cross, looks deeply into the Inner Experience of the Mystical Ways.

Book Description
Colonial missionaries, both Catholic and Protestant, arrived in India with the grandiose vision of converting the pagans because, like St. Peter (Acts 4:12) and most of the church fathers, they honestly believed that there is no salvation outside the church (extra ecclesiam nulla salus). At the end of the "great Protestant century," however, Christians made up less than 3 percent of the population in India, and the hope of the missionary was nearly shattered. But if one looks at mission in India qualitatively rather than quantitatively, one sees a number of positive outcomes. Missionaries in India, particularly Protestant missionaries espousing the social gospel, in collaboration with a few British evangelical administrators, dared to challenge numerous social evils and even began to eradicate them. The scientific and liberal English education began to enlighten and transform the Indian mindset. Converts belonging to the upper caste, although small in number, laid the foundation stone of Indian theology and an inculturated church using Indian genius. The end of colonialism in India coincided with the painful death of colonial mission theology. Now, the power of the Word of God, extricated from political power, is slowly and peacefully gaining ground, like the mustard seed of the parable. A paradigm shift from the ecclesio-centric mission to missio Dei offers reason for further optimism. In short, the future of mission in India is as bright as the kingdom of God. In today's new context, theologians, despite objections from some quarters, are struggling to discover the Asian face of Jesus, disfigured by the Greco-Roman Church. And the missionary is challenged to become a living Bible that, undoubtedly, everyone will read.

Book Description
PSYCHOTHERAPY AND THE SPIRITUAL DIMENSION presents a comprehensive view of the history and practices of the major spiritual traditions and their relationship with the modern psychotherapeutic schools. The book is designed to provide a solid grounding in both the spiritual and the psychotherapeutic traditions for the benefit of mental-health professionals and lay-persons alike. The author maintains that modern-day therapists may need to expand their notions of cure, arguing that conventional ideas of adjustment therapy may well be inadequate to meet the demands of twenty-first-century consciousness evolution.

Book Description
Religious practitioners and theatregoers have much in common. So much, in fact, that we can say that religion is often a theatrical phenomenon, and that theatre can be a religious experience. By examining the phenomenology of religion, we can in turn develop a better understanding of the phenomenology of theatre. That is to say, religion can show us the ways in which theatre is not fake. This study explores the overlap of religion and theatre, especially in the crucial area of experience and personal identity. Reconsidering ideas from ancient Greece, premodern India, modern Europe, and the recent century, it argues that religious adherents and theatre audiences are largely, themselves, the mechanisms of their experiences. By examining the development of the philosophy of theatre alongside theories of religious action, this book shows how we need to adjust our views of both. Featuring attention to influential notions from Plato and Aristotle, from the Natyashastra, from Schleiermacher to Sartre, Bourdieu, and Butler, and considering contemporary theories of performance and ritual, this is vital reading for any scholar in religious studies, theatre and performance studies, theology, or philosophy.

Book Description
"Sometimes God comes like a thief in the night; sometimes He breaks down the front door when you didn’t even know He was coming! The author’s Unexpected Visitor made mincemeat of her well-ordered atheist life, taking her into vast, uncharted regions of her own heart. Traveling from Peru to India, she eventually found her spiritual home as a Kriyaban-yogi, a disciple of a great Indian Master, Paramhansa Yogananda. A fascinating, almost daily account of this sudden, total transformation."-Asha Nayaswami, Founding Member, Ananda Worldwide, Author Winner of the 2021 Best Independent Author Book Award. Raised by atheists, Jennifer Duke rejected any possibility of an omniscient creator. At age fifty, she could not have foreseen the cataclysmic shift that was about to occur in her life – and the profound inner experiences that would challenge her entire view of reality. What changed? What took her to Peru and India in search of answers? This book is not about organized religion. As Jennifer would discover, we do not need priests, dogmas, institutions, or intermediaries to experience our own direct, inner connection with Spirit. No one and no external entity can limit our access to the Divine Light. Through her direct experiences of union with Spirit, she was able, in time, to navigate the revolutionary shift in her understanding of Truth. In Jennifer’s clear, sincere narrative we feel the authenticity of her journey, as she discovers her Soul nature, the truths of the universe, and the path of Self-realization. This is a profound and earnest account of a life unfolding, expanding into the divine and eternal Truth that awaits us all.
