Book Description
A rich, meditative new collection of poetry from John Koethe, the "necessary and great poet" (Hyperallergic). It’s presumptuous, but if you’re reading this you Probably know my usual obsessions and preoccupations: The “world”—both the word and what it stands for—and time, Which is or isn’t real, depending on my mood. I’ve always Hated poems about philosophy, and I hope I still do, But since I don’t know what that means anymore, here I am, Musing on my ends and my beginnings one more time . . . In Beyond Belief, John Koethe poses eternal and essential questions about the rhythms of time, language and literature, and “the space between attention and belief.” The eleventh book of poetry from America’s philosopher-poet is an intimate, searching collection that gives life to the mundane and lends words to our most interior and abstract musings. What makes a life real? Words on a page, the accumulation of moments and memories, or nothing at all? And what is a life worth? Locked inside, have we lost our future and its promises or are we merely pressed to inhabit our present and ourselves? The award-winning poet invites us into his consideration of our world, as “An ordinary person sitting on his balcony on a summer afternoon, / Waiting patiently for someone to explain it to and meanwhile / Living quietly in his imagination, imagining the afterlife.”

Book Description
Poetry from Beyond the Grave is the first English publication of a large selection of poems by the Brazilian medium and Spiritist leader Francisco Cândido “Chico” Xavier. These poems, originally collected in the volume Parnaso de Além-Túmulo, were dictated to Xavier by a variety of spirits of Brazilian poets from the afterlife, as journeying souls or as witnesses of the spiritual city Nosso Lar, “our house.” Poetry from Beyond the Grave is a veritable collection of haunted writing, in which poets present their posthumous work as if they were alive. The brilliant translation by Vitor Pequeno is supplemented by an extensive afterword by Jeremy Fernando, who traces what it means to speak through the other.

Book Description
In the summer of 1999, Junior (a.k.a. Leonard Gerard Robinson Jr.) is a freshman at Steny College of New York along with Vanessa Bailey, his desirable girlfriend. Although their uncensored romance appears enviable from afar, up-close, the two lovers have an apt for trouble. They tempt fate between the sheets by brazenly avoiding protection and make poor decisions throughout the book. Junior's eyebrow-raising love life isn't his only concern, however. The scholar from Brooke's Rowe loses his lust for poetry and often battles with his older sister, Casey, over his responsibilities. Meanwhile, Junior can barely hold onto his job at the Grocery Mart. He obsesses with wooing his Brooklyn-bred lover and allows his priorities to fall to the wayside. The allure of a loving relationship fuels Junior's shortfalls in this sinful, urban tale.Author Nathan Jarelle entices readers with thorough storytelling in this scathing sequel to its predecessor. Beyond Poetry: Above & Beyond delivers on every facet of the urban spectrum: romance, comedy, violence and heartache. Jarelle's use of real-world language is persuasive throughout the novel. His poetry amplifies the dilemma on page, and his rhyming cadence is unique. Jarelle continues his throwback tour with a pit-stop at the tail end of the 90s!

Book Description
Lee Ann Roripaugh has been hailed by Ishmael Reed as "one of the brightest talents" writing poetry today. In this collection, she gives voice to the Japanese immigrants of the American West. In an unforgiving land of dirt and sagebrush, mothers labor to teach their children of the ocean, old men are displaced by geography and language, and the ghosts of Hiroshima clamor for peace. Lee Ann Roripaugh's exquisitely crafted poems rise from the pages of Beyond Heart Mountain burdened with memory and pain, yet converting these to powerful art--art that is like "the pattern of kimono found burned into a woman after Hiroshima . . . almost too beautiful, too horrible . . . to bear." Remember to raise bright orbs of rice-paper lanterns by the goldfish pond, so they can watch for me with the yellow, unblinking gaze of nocturnal things . . . --from "Peony Lantern"

Book Description
These poems are about the countless nights I couldn't sleep- the things that wouldn't leave my mind however hard I tried to avoid them. These words are the inner me reminding myself- that I am wasting my life in an eight-hour job, that I am merely existing and not living. These are the reminders which told me that I was forgetting that I am mortal. I hope this becomes a reminder to you too- to live to be. -Amar

Book Description
An original reading of Nietzsche and Heidegger that paved the way for Vattimo’s conception of weak thought. In Beyond the Subject Gianni Vattimo offers a reading of Nietzsche and Heidegger that shows how the premises to overcome the metaphysical Subject were already embedded in their thought. Vattimo makes a case for a Nietzsche who is not concerned with the structure and glorification of the Overman, but rather with its opposite, by showing how it is the single individual who must see and accept his/her potential and then excel and develop an inner strength and ethic. He reads Heidegger as concerned with the inevitable distortion present in every interpretation, which, when confronted and accepted, humbles us to deal with a less overarching telos or Grund, and makes us more attuned to contingency and interpersonal communication—what Vattimo calls a “weakened” notion of being. These original readings of Nietzsche and Heidegger pave the way for Vattimo’s concept of weak thought and open up to a future social ethic that is less agonistic and more community oriented. This edition includes two supplementary essays from 1986 and 1988 that expand on the same themes, providing a deeper look at an important decade in the development of Vattimo’s thought.
