Behold the Sower is a personal journey that began in the late 70’s as a meditation on the parable of the sower as found in (Matthew 13:3-8). Focusing primarily on the three words of the parable—"Behold the sower." If taken seriously, this table-talk journey will guide us into a balanced, deeper, more meaningful and intimate walk with the Lord Jesus, all while occasionally interjecting some humor along the way. Behold the Sower seeks to break us out of our rut. I believe it was Chuck Swindoll who said, a rut is just a grave with the ends kicked out! We’ll get to defy the same old, same old status quo of the hum-drum church and maybe even wake a few folks up in the process. God doesn’t need to grow, develop or change. He alone is God almighty, the same yesterday, today and forever! We, on the other hand, must grow, develop and allow change if we’re going to be conforming to His image and be relevant in today’s society. I hope you come to a point where you feel as if we are simply conversing with one another about the sower. It is my heartfelt desire to connect with you and develop together into the mature man or woman of God that He wants us to be. At the end of each chapter of the journey you’ll find 2-3 pages have been left blank to make it appear to have more pages, so you feel the cost of the book is justifed. Just kidding! The blank pages are actually there for you. This easily affords you the opportunity to journal—to include your thoughts, comments, cross-references, doodles, impressions and really make it your own. I can’t wait to get started!

The Prophetic Parables of Matthew 13 is a message of meditation based on the Bible and written by Arthur Walkington Pink (1 April 1886 – 15 July 1952) was an English Bible teacher who sparked a renewed interest in the exposition of Calvinism or Reformed Theology. Little known in his own lifetime, Pink became "one of the most influential evangelical authors in the second half of the twentieth century." Arthur Walkington Pink was born in Nottingham, England, to a corn merchant, a devout non-conformist of uncertain denomination, though probably a Congregationalist. Otherwise, almost nothing is known of Pink's childhood or education except that he had some ability and training in music. As a young man, Pink joined the Theosophical Society and apparently rose to enough prominence within its ranks that Annie Besant, its head, offered to admit him to its leadership circle.[4] In 1908 he renounced Theosophy for evangelical Christianity. Desiring to become a minister but unwilling to attend a liberal theological college in England, Pink very briefly studied at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago in 1910 before taking the pastorate of the Congregational church in Silverton, Colorado. In 1912 Pink left Silverton, probably for California, and then took a joint pastorate of churches in rural Burkesville and Albany, Kentucky. In 1916, he married Vera E. Russell (1893–1962), who had been reared in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Pink's next pastorate seems to have been in Scottsville. Then the newlyweds moved in 1917 to Spartanburg, South Carolina, where Pink became pastor of Northside Baptist Church. By this time Pink had become acquainted with prominent dispensationalist Fundamentalists, such as Harry Ironside and Arno C. Gaebelein, and his first two books, published in 1917 and 1918, were in agreement with that theological position. Yet Pink's views were changing, and during these years he also wrote the first edition of The Sovereignty of God (1918), which argued that God did not love sinners and had deliberately created "unto damnation" those who would not accept Christ. Whether because of his Calvinistic views, his nearly incredible studiousness, his weakened health, or his lack of sociability, Pink left Spartanburg in 1919 believing that God would "have me give myself to writing." But Pink then seems next to have taught the Bible with some success in California for a tent evangelist named Thompson while continuing his intense study of Puritan writings.

THE CHRONICLES OF THE SEED In the Gospel of Mark, the fourth chapter, Jesus asked two questions that should have stopped us in our tracks. However for years I read right past this without a second thought. Jesus asked his disciples the following questions when they wanted an explanation about the parable of the sower. "Do you not understand this parable? How then will you understand all the parables?" It was as if Jesus said STOP! Do not go any farther until you completely understand the essence of the parable of the sower. Just before this Jesus says "To you it has been given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God; but to those who are outside, all things come in parables", suggesting that this is a great mystery that is not for everybody, but you (His disciples) have the privilege of knowing and understanding this mystery. Finally He gives the key to this great mystery, "The sower soweth the Word". In other words, the Word is 'The Seed'. The Word is the Seed that all other seeds proceed from. The Word of God was here before any other seed. John 1:1 says, "In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God, and the Word was God".
