Book Description
A study is presented concerning the behavior of reinforced concrete sections at elevated temperatures. Material properties of concrete and reinforcing steel are discussed. Behavior studies are made by means of moment-curvature-axial force relationships. Particular attention is given to the load carrying capacity, thermal forces and moments, and deformation capacity. The effects on these properties of variations in the strength properties, the temperature level and distribution, the amount of reinforcing steel, and limiting values of strains are considered.

Book Description
This book presents the work done by the RILEM Technical Committee 227-HPB (Physical properties and behaviour of High-Performance Concrete at high temperature). It contains the latest research results on the behaviour of high-performance concretes at high temperature. The book presents the state of the art of experimental data on High-Performance concretes and it collects and synthesizes useful data about concrete behaviour at high temperatures. The book is divided into independent chapters dealing with degradation reactions in concrete exposed to high temperatures; mass transport properties; thermal properties; and mechanical properties. The results presented especially target a group of users composed by universities and testing laboratories, building material companies and industries, material scientists and experts, building and infrastructure authorities, designers and civil engineers.

Book Description
The fire resistance of reinforced concrete structures is one of the important issues considered in their design. One of the major problems in analyzing concrete structures using finite element method is the constitutive law used to model their stress-strain behavior. This book presented a numerical method developed to analyze the thermal and structural response of reinforced concrete slabs in elevated temperatures. A finite element approach was used for both thermal and structural analyses, where the effect of high temperature on the mechanical and thermal properties of concrete and steel are taken into account. A model for the stress-strain relationship of concrete at normal temperature was proposed, where it considered four stages of behavior: elastic, elastic-damage, elasto-plastic, and elastic-softening-damage. Based on the principles of continuum damage mechanics, a constitutive law was developed by adding a parameter resembling the area and number of cracks propagating during loading. This model could represent the softening behavior of concrete for different specimen sizes.

Book Description
While reinforced concrete structures depend on ductility for acceptable seismic performance, research on the material behavior of concrete and steel has indicated that the loss of ductility may occur under low temperatures. The current research program investigates the behavior of reinforced concrete column-type members under low temperatures ( -20 degrees Celsius, -30 degrees Celsius, and -40 degrees Celsius, approximately) and compares the results to an identical specimen tested at ambient laboratory temperature (23 degrees Celsius). The columns are lightly reinforced, and were loaded in a reversed cyclic manner while inside of an environmental chamber. The results of the experimentation indicate moderate increases in column strength as the temperature decreases, as well as moderate decreases in ultimate displacement capacity as the temperature decreases. The hysteretic damping properties of the columns were not significantly affected by low temperatures, and the specimen tested at -40 degrees Celsius exhibited a shortening of the extent of plasticity.
