With no escape plan, the three men are soon arrested after a drunken escapade and implicate Bathsheba; she is swiftly arrested. In the first murder after the Declaration of Independence, they are tried, convicted, and sentenced to death by hanging. Bathsheba pleads for a stay of execution until after her baby is born but it is denied. On a hot July afternoon, in front of a crowd of several thousand, the four are executed. Finding peace and solace in her final moments, she dies awaiting eternal salvation after personal repentance"--
