Book Description
Although several monographs and reviews have appeared on individual polymers of this type, and their applications and other technical aspects have also been discussed, this is apparently the first book to deal with the physical chemistry of water-soluble synthetic polymers as a group. This collective survey enables their properties and behaviour to be compared, and to be correlated with their molecular structures for predictive purposes. However, this has made it necessary to critically re-appraise much of the earlier fundamental work, so that current discussion of more recent work can be put on ta proper basis. Thus, of the 1800 or so references cited, the middle two-thirds related to the twenty-year period centred on about 1968. Nevertheless, sufficient key recent references have also been included so that the existing ‘state of the art is delineated.

Book Description
Over the last twenty years, the field of the chemistry of polymerization witnessed enormous growth through the development of new concepts, catalysts, processes etc. Examples are: non classical living polymerizations (group transfer polymerization, living carbocationic polymerization, living radical polymerization and living ring-opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP)); new catalysts (metallocenes and late transition metal catalysts for stereospecific polymerization, Schrock and Grubbs catalyst for ROMP among others) and new processes such as miniemulsion, microemulsion polymerization and dispersion polymerization (in polar solvents). Apart from the developments in the chemistry of polymerization, methods have been developed for the evaluation of highly reliable rate constants of propagation in radical as well as cationic polymerization. All these have revolutionized the field of synthetic polymer chemistry. In the book, fundamentals of both the new and old polymerization chemistry have been dealt with. The new chemistry has been given nearly equal space along with the old.

Book Description
Basics of Polymer, Volume II, demonstrates the scope of polymer testing. In addition, it introduces versatile methods of testing equipment effectively and clearly. In recent years, polymer testing has been extensively developed. Its utility has also been explored in detail, and areas of its practical application in the polymer industry have been added. Polymers, with their macromolecules, undergo a wide variety of phase changes during their processing. Due to this, the author discusses these important, useful, and instrumental techniques aimed at improving the quality of products. This book introduces the exceptionally promising instrumental methods that are of interest and relevance to technologists. Students interested in various aspects of instrumental techniques will also find the book useful. The instrumental techniques are discussed along with their possible applications to polymers. Looking to the future, it might be said that instrumental techniques will be, and should be, the methods for further research and study.

Book Description
From Reports in Volume 5: "Recently polymer blends have emerged as one of the most important areas of research activity in the field of polymer science and technology. Because of their satisfactory performance in meeting specific needs of the polymer industry, they have drawn considerable attention in replacing not only many conventional materials, but also some of the polymers that are in vogue. By suitably varying the blend compositions and manipulating the processing conditions, tailor-made products with a unique set of end use properties can be achieved at a much lower cost and within a shorter time than would have been necessary for the development of a new polymer. The usefulness of such blends increases with the increasing range of applications of this type of materials." (Chapter 4) "New and growing demands on polymeric materials cannot be satisfied in future by an assortment extension of basic polymers. Although the introduction of new major-use basic polymer is possible, it seems unlikely in view of current projected economic and technical considerations. On the other hand, new products based on the modification of existing polymers have and will continue to be fruitful areas for both scientific and commercial developments. The driving forces for these developments are: 1. Improved performance, 2. Reduced cost, 3. Present, pending and future legislation dealing with health and environmental issues." (Chapter 11)

Book Description
In Crystallization of Polymers, 2nd Edition, Leo Mandelkern provides a self-contained, comprehensive, and up-to-date treatment of polymer crystallization. Volume 2 of this edition provides an authoritative account of the kinetics and mechanisms of polymer crystallization, building from the equilibrium concepts presented in volume 1. As crystalline polymers rarely, if ever, achieve their equilibrium state, this books serves as a bridge between equilibrium concepts and the state that is finally achieved. With a comprehensive treatment of the surrounding theories and experimental results from simple to complex polymer systems, this book will be an invaluable reference work for all chemists, physicists and materials scientists working in the area of polymer crystallization.

Book Description
The Basics of Polymers is written exclusively about chemical methods of polymer testing aimed at producing a high degree of manufacturing and quality control of polymer products. Polymer testing has assumed importance for industries dependent on polymers and additives as key product components. The text is intended to serve as a handbook for students, engineers, and people involved in polymer synthesis and laboratory work. This book provides information on identification and characterization of polymers by chemical methods. Specifically aimed at graduate-level students, its style of presentation is practical, making it easier to grasp. The author hopes this book will encourage and foster continuing method development and application of chemical methods for characterizing polymers. Education and training of people being of paramount importance, it is also valuable to all educators/processors as a tremendous resource that answers commonly asked questions.

Book Description
Thermodynamics is an indispensable tool for developing a large and growing fraction of new polymers and polymer blends. These two volumes show the researcher how thermodynamics can be used to rank polymer pairs in order of immiscibility, including the search for suitable chemical structure of compatibilizers. Because of the great current commercial interest in this most dynamic sector of the polymer industry, there is high interest in studying their physical and mechanical properties, their structures, and the processes of their formation and manufacture. These Books are dedicated to Analysis of the Thermodynamics of Polymer Blends. Thermodynamic behavior of blends determines the compatibility of the components, their morphological features, rheological behavior, and microphase structures. As a result, the most important physical and mechanical characteristics of blends can be identified.
