Book Description
It is the purpose of this book to collate and unify the literature on the Tracer Method. Perhaps, as a result, some existing barriers between fields will be overcome with improved communication between workers. It is also hoped that a broader appreciation of the nature of the tracer method and a clearer understanding of its present scope and limitations will be created.

Radiochemical Methods in Analysis
Author: D. Coomber
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1461344018
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 502
Book Description
The aim of this book is to give an account of the principal radiochemical methods used in chemical analysis. It is assumed that the reader already has some background knowledge of radioactivity, available from several general textbooks. For this reason some subjects, e. g. the fundamentals of radio activity, the properties of radiation, statistics of counting procedures, the precautions needed in working with radioactive materials, which could have occupied half the text, are not considered in detail. The different aspects of radiochemical analysis have been covered by specialized books and reviews, e. g. on activation analysis, gamma spectrometry, radiometric titrations. A good deal of information is in the form of reports of meetings and symposia and liquid scintillation counting, for instance, has been mainly covered in this way. There are also a large number of journals. It is therefore hoped that this book will help fill the gap between the introductory texts and the specialized sources, many of which are referred to in the chapter references. The ftrst three chapters in the present volume deal with the methods of measurement of radioactive nuclides. Chapter I gives a general account of detection and measurement techniques. The next two chapters are devoted to two specialized techniques: gamma-ray spectrometry and liquid scintilla tion counting.

Fundamentals of Biochemical Pharmacology
Author: Z. M. Bacq
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 1483181626
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 694
Book Description
Fundamentals of Biochemical Pharmacology explains the molecular aspects of drugs and the changes in bio-chemical systems. The cellular movements that result from such changes are also evaluated. Biochemical lesion is extensively defined in the book. A discussion on electromagnetic radiation is also provided. A chapter of the book is devoted to the principles of electronic and nuclear magnetic resonance. The principles and applications of mass spectrometry and combined gas chromatography are then discussed. The scientific advances made with the use of immunological methods are the focus of a section of the book. Another section provides an introduction to the kinetic properties of reactions made by enzymes. The process called homogenization is clearly explained along with a discussion on the use of electron microscopy. Autoradiography shows the distribution of compounds at the subcellular level. The theoretical background of molecular spectroscopy is presented completely. The book is intended for chemists, biochemists, physicists, micro-biologists, zoologists, and botanists .

The Terrestrial Environment, B
Author: P. Fritz
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 1483289834
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 570
Book Description
Handbook of Environmental Isotope Geochemistry, Volume 2: The Terrestrial Environment, B focuses on the processes, methodologies, principles, and approaches involved in isotope geochemistry. The selection first elaborates on mathematical models for the interpretation of environmental radioisotopes in groundwater systems; isotopes in cloud physics; and environmental isotopes in lake studies. Discussions focus on water balance studies of lakes, isotopic fractionations during evaporation of water, study of hailstone growth mechanisms by means of isotopic analyses, isotopic effects during growth of individual elements, and models and their hydrological significance. The text then takes a look at environmental isotope and anthropogenic tracers of lake sedimentation; stable isotope geochemistry of travertines; and isotope geochemistry of carbonates in the weathering zone. Topics include isotopic composition of carbonates in the weathering zone; reprecipitation processes in the weathering zone; isotopic composition of carbon and oxygen sources in the weathering zone; and geochemical conditions controlling travertine deposition. The manuscript also reviews radioactive noble gases in the terrestrial environment, isotope effects of nitrogen in the soil and biosphere, and oxygen and hydrogen isotope geochemistry of deep basin brines. The selection is a vital source of data for researchers interested in isotope geochemistry.
