Book Description
Economies in the Caribbean and all over the world are grappling with the consequences of globalisation and the accompanying changes in the rules of international trade, including loss of preferential markets and erosion of preferences. This has resulted in increasing global competition for traditional products from these economies, a situation compounded by rising energy costs and accompanying negative social ills such as unemployment, rising criminality, health and educational challenges, and the like. Besides, many of these economies are facing a serious threat from climate change and the accompanying environmental problems. What are realistic socio-economic development options for The Bahamas, given the policy space now available to its government? In this era of neoliberal globalisation, however, we would find that there has been little of worth contributed to the concrete task of working out thorough strategies and consistent policies (i.e., the local response) for coping with these socio-economic problems in The Bahamas. Indeed, it is surprising how little attention has been paid to developing rational strategies and policies aimed at providing a planning frame to deal with the multi-dimensional problems of the Bahamian underdevelopment. The edited volume The Bahamas in the 21st Century seeks to answer questions like these and to offer concrete policy recommendations while engaging scholars, policy makers, professionals, students, and all persons interested in the burning issues associated with this theme.

Book Description
This article is an overview of the structure of the Bahamian financial system. After the financial crisis in the United States, the Bahamian financial structure showed fragile growth. Tourism, the main source of income for the domestic economy, weakened owing to the U.S. crisis. The increase in oil prices was the key reason for the destroyed infrastructure. However, amidst the vulnerabilities, the banking sector showed stability with high capital and liquidity and sustained challenges; the insurance sector also showed significant improvement. The current financial framework needs to be strengthened, and the mission recommends several reforms to handle financial shocks.

Book Description
This book focuses on the complex issues of tourism development, governance and sustainability in the long-standing popular island destination, The Bahamas, where tourism remains one of the primary fiscal industries. The book achieves this by looking at the impacts of mass tourism development from social, economic and environmental perspectives; panarchy and resilience; assessing sustainability; moving towards a blue economy; impacts of climate change and innovative alternative tourism offerings to ensure sustainable tourism – a welcomed but challenging essential contemporary focus of the tourism industry. It further looks at how development, governance and sustainability come together in the aftermath of a recent natural disaster, hurricane Dorian, which proved to be a strong catalyst for action, innovation and change in The Bahamas. Given the complexity of these key concepts and The Bahamas as an established popular tourism destination archipelago which relies so heavily on the industry, this book offers significant insight for other tourism regions and will therefore be essential reading for upper-level students and academics in the field of Tourism research.

Book Description
This book explores the distinct nuisances and obstacles that are brought on by the tourism and travel industry within Caribbean small island developing countries (SIDS). The author explores best practices and measures that can be used to overcome or alleviate the hardship faced by the industry by giving voice to the nations that are often overshadowed or restrained by their developed counterparts. This book reflects on and assesses the transformative power that tourism has in Caribbean small island developing states, while unearthing the threats that affect the longevity and economic viability of the industry in general. It is an important and overdue text focusing on this unique group of islands and will inform students and researchers on the struggles and opportunities they face.
