Book Description
This volume documents in some detail current practices in prenatal diagnosis and testing in Canada today and, in the process, provides answers to many questions raised in the Commission's public consultations. This is done through an analysis of the activities of all Canadian genetics centres providing PND, as well as an analysis of the process by which women are referred to these centres. Other studies in the volume focus not on prenatal diagnostic procedures but on prenatal screening programs. These programs involve a wider range of physicians, often including general practitioners, and the studies examine how such programs have been introduced in Canada and the extent to which, in this wider arena, they conform to the standards established for the introduction of prenatal diagnostic techniques.
